INTERNATIONAL IMPRISONED WRITERS' DAY 14 NOV

OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF BOOK CREATORS CIRCLE COINCIDES WITH IMPRISONED WRITERS' DAY:
15 NOVEMBER 09 MERCURE HARBOURSIDE CAIRNS

The weekend began with SBS radio interview Dr Rossana Del Zio in Roma and the podcast being transmitted in Australia to show how the concept of Book Creators Circle links and enables writers. Events held over the weekend included presentations from publishers to motivational speakers to an information session on Book Creators Circle.

Book Creators Circle allows writers and people in the book industry to have profile, to network and to share their ideas about the book creation journey. Visiting contributor Gay Liddington expressed: "Book Creators Circle as a title says exactly what this concept is and that it is unique."

The events for the weekend concluded with the official launch with the MC Patricia Ryan introducing the two speakers Dr Sasi Victoire and the Director of Book Creators Circle - Letizia De Rosa.

The professional guest speaker Patricia Ryan welcomed the crowd of over 60 attendees including Book Creators, visitors and local literary organisations. Patricia told the group: "We have a widening circle of people that grows internationally." The audience sat in an open tropical poolside area in a semi-formal setting. The launch was opened with Welcome to Country and also the acknowledgement that the 15th of November as the day that International PEN world-wide remembers the imprisoned writer. In a recent letter received by Letizia from PEN: "There are currently over 1000 writers, editors and librarians in the world whose voice is silenced and who do not live in countries that permit the same liberties as our own."

Dr Sasi Victoire talked about the importance of writers working together and making their connections work for them in the best possible ways and that Book Creators Circle represents one way for writers to connect all over the world. She concluded with a warm congratulations to all the Book Creators present to support one another and the book industry in Australia.

Letizia De Rosa also did a personal welcome to country reminding the audience, "that the indigenous of Australia had verbal stories and illustrations. They were the first to have a book on their heart and today there are books created for those stories."

Letizia also reminded those present that, "Book Creators is a soft place to land from aspiring to academic writers - in the hope of bringing Australian writers a little closer to the rest of the world. We need writers and we need readers and people with a passion for books."

Letizia's speech included reading what other members had said about Book Creators. She also read the inaugural words sent to her during the week including those from Australia and overseas. Both readings were an acknowledgement to the contributors who were not present and helped mark this exceptional inauguration day.

Letizia De Rosa concluded by inviting the group: "To gather annually for International PEN Day and to attend the Expo in July as these events allow writers etc to meet nationally, network, forge relationships, strengthen literary partnerships and welcome other international Book Creators to join them at these events."

"The potential for Book Creators," Letizia De Rosa said, "is limitless. It is limitless in what it might create and bring about for writers and people in the book industry. If we work together anything is possbile."
