Johanna Squire - Aspiring Writer Johanna(known as Jo) Squire is a vet who has run her mobile vet practice in Cairns for 18 years. Jo makes frequent tips to the Cape York Peninsula and the Torres Strait where she works with indigenous people in remote communities. She has also treated animals in P.N.G which she visits on scuba diving trips. Much of Jo's writing focusses on these field trips.
Born in England in 1962, Jo then spent most of her childhood years in Turkey, Kenya and finally New Zealand where she stayed long enough to earn a Veterinary Science degree from Massey university. Leaving ' Footrot Flats ' of the Manawatu Plains surrounding Massey University she escaped to the warmer drier Australian climate. Here Jo worked initially on a project dealing with Zoonoses ( diseases that are transmitted from animals to humans) focussing on the A.C.T and the Southern Tableland area of N.S.W.
Being a keen hiker and scuba diver she has travelled widely filling her diaries with stories from places as far flung as Irian Jaya, Madagascar and Antarctica. Jo has occasionally found herself desperately searching shop shelves in remote locations for fresh writing materials. After years of procrastination and dreaming of being a published writer Jo is prioritising the editing of these stories, as well as pieces of fictional work, into a form that can be enjoyed by others. |
