JUDITH PASCO - WRITER Judith Pasco, Writer, Founder and Board Chair of Mujeres de Maiz Opportunity Foundation, Teacher.
Judith was born in California and raised near Chicago, but for the last 27 years she calls the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State her home. Traveling and stretching herself culturally has been a vital part of her life. She retired from teaching high school Spanish a few years ago and devotes much of her time to what she sees as her legacy, a non-profit organization that works with indigenous women in Chiapas, Mexico to provide them with access to education. Judith travels to Chiapas every summer and leads small groups there every December. Her respect for the women and her belief that education is the first step out of poverty have resulted in relationships built on trust and caring. |

She has recently completed a book (well, finished the fourth revision and thinks it is finished) that is basically a memoir which includes the lead-up, cultural factors, travel adventures and snafus to forming and running Mujeres de Maiz OF. The chapters range between travel narrative and adventures to light-hearted encounters to challenges and obstacles facing indigenous women. Because Judith is so grateful to have Mujeres in her life, the larger purpose of the book is to encourage people to espouse a cause.
At the present time, Judith is entering the new, unknown territory known as "Book Publishing." She is ready to look at all kinds of options so that her manuscript will evolve into a finished product. Her goal is to donate all profits back to Mujeres de Maiz OF. A mutual friend referred her to Book Creators Circle and she is enthusiastic about the networking possibilities. |
Somewhere for my soul to go a place, a cause, a legacy by Judith Pasco Somewhere for my soul to go weaves memoir, travel stories, and inspiration into one woman's journey to a legacy. Pasco uses journal entries and vignettes from her many trips to Chiapas, Mexico, to produce a narrative that is both humorous and sobering.
Her account of the founding of Mujeres de Maiz Opportunity Foundation includes a heart-warming glimpse of the indigenous women and girls of a weaving/seamstress cooperative, their educational progress, and the obstacles they confront in their daily lives. Pasco's book showcases an adventurous spirit in a humanitarian endeavor but also depicts an older woman who is realistic about her own shortcomings in challenging situations.
Judith Pasco Judith Pasco taught high school Spanish for 20 years. In addition to being the Board Chair of Mujeres de Maiz Opportunity Foundation, she is addicted to reading, travel, and gardening. She lives in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains in Washington State with her beekeeper/carpenter husband and their four cats.
Olympic Cellars is hosting a book launch on Thursday, March 28 at 5:30 that will include a reading and sale of books.
