Linda Ryan - Aspiring Writer/Psychologist I started my career as an early childhood/primary school teacher in a beautiful place on the sunshine coast called Woombye. From there I transferred to Cairns, and also enjoyed a teaching stint in London while on the good old Aussie backpacking trip. Then one day, while on long service leave, I had an urge to undertake a counselling course. This lead to a change of career direction, that saw me enrolling in a psychology degree at JCU in Cairns.
In my final year of uni I worked on my Honours thesis on the topic of resilience in midlife (middle-age). My research paper was submitted to the Journal of Positive Psychology and will be published in the near future. |

This inspired me and has instilled in me a desire to write about what I've learnt, hopefully to educate, entertain or assist others. Upon completion of my degree I obtained work as a Family Counsellor in Port Douglas, and have written an article for the Port Douglas Gazette. My current job also presented me with the opportunity to train as a Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) presenter/trainer, and I am currently involved in running workshops and seminars in the Triple P program.
My aspiration now is to combine my passion for writing with my desire to help people, by writing (educational) articles for magazines, and eventually having my own book published. I also aspire to write a children's book one day. In addition, I love proofreading and editing and have previously been employed at this stage of the publishing process. Therefore, I am available to work as a proofreader/editor for anyone who requires this service, and can be contacted at the address below.
As a person, I am all about communicating effectively with people, supporting people, and empowering people. My philosophy is to think positively, always look for the learning in every situation, and the strengths in every person. As an aspiring author and counsellor I believe strongly that ...
"What you focus on in life gets bigger - so make sure you focus on what you want!" |
