Pip Sheehan Lowther - Poet and Book Creator Over the past 25 years, Pip has been active in community writing and poetry, both in Australia and New Zealand, coordinating workshops and readings, as well as publishing and performing her own poetry. Her poetry collections Colourheat, IndigoThistles & FeetFirst are sold out, with a new book+CD out late 2009.
Pip cut her poetry teeth in Byron Bay in the '80s & '90s, doing live gigs at North Coast venues such as cafes, pubs, halls and schools as part of a strong presence of poets, both writing and performing.
Pip (more widely known as Philomena then) was twice invited guest reader at the Poets Union WEBSITE Sydney venue in Glebe, and performed at NSW Regional Poets festivals at Wollongong, New England and Griffith University campuses.
Moving to New Zealand in 1995, she continued as a writing workshop coordinator and as a performer at spoken word events including venues in Auckland, Dunedin, and Queenstown Lakes District. Poetry NZ's Alistair Paterson WEBSITE says of her work, Pip's poetry at its best rings like crystal.
She was the creative motivation for a successful series of community arts events at Lake Wanaka funded through Creative Arts government grants called Paradiso Poets WEBSITE, combining local music, performance poetry and art exhibition.
Living in Cairns 2007-2009, Pip was involved with the Tropical Writers group. Now Wanaka-based again, her small press business PeakPress is providing editing, graphic design, and pre-press services, mainly for small projects such as family histories, poetry, and manuals.
