Sophy Diaz - Aspiring Writer/Book Creator
Sophy Diaz is an aspiring American writer born in the Dominican Republic in the small town of San Juan de la Maguana. She works in hospitality in Manhattan, at the Roger Smith Hotel in New York city and is currently studying and working towards a senior position in the service industry. She loves her work in hospitality and is very proud of the Roger Smith Hotel - see photo gallery(press here or bottom right).
In her spare time she locates stories from her childhood to create a collection of recounts from her ancestors, the island's rich cultural traditions and the depth of her cultural experiences. Her passion for writing grew from listening to her family and friends at the festive island gatherings and the numerous story-telling occasions that sparked her interest in reliving these stories in a book. This journey began from the age of 9 when she listened intently at family meals and, around the kitchen table especially when the women gathered. From those tales her passion grew and developed towards her culture and towards preserving the invaluable recounts she heard. She feels a strong sense of responsibility in showing the world the beauty and richness of her culture and heritage through the stories she so keenly hopes to retell.
Sophy Diaz's inspirations where Pablo Neruda, Isabel Allende, Gabriel Garcia and numerous Latin American writers. She has graduated in a Bachelor in Human Services and this too has given rise to her biography, numerous children's stories, and poetry books.
When Sophy is not working or writing she spends her time with her husband and two children or takes advantage of her limited time to do some biking, yoga or sewing.
Sophy's passion for books has encouraged her to join Book Creators Circle and to promote the concept by encouraging others to do so too. She advocates for the continuation of cultural stories through the production of books and the written word.
