Wired With Words - Cairns School of Distance Ed Wired with Words is a two day 'writingfest' where Cairns School of Distance Education students will gather together in Cairns to focus on creative writing. The camp will take place on August 19 and 20, 2010 in Cairns and students from across the far north will be invited to attend. For students living in remote communities, this camp will provide the unique opportunity to work face-to-face with peers, teachers and with published authors.
Students will be privileged to work with Michael Bauer, author of The Running Man and the Ishmael Series, and local writer, Hazel Menehira, author of eight books and whose historical novel, The Seer Stone, is about to be released. The two day camp which will consist of a number of workshops aimed at fostering creative writing skills, improving literacy and encouraging reading is part a wider program run by the school. This year has seen the successful introduction of weekly book club meetings and blogs to encourage reading in Middle School students. Through initiatives like Wired with Words in 2010, the school aims to continue to foster a love of reading and creative writing. |
