I thank all of you who come to this communication forum and join us often in discussion etc.
Reminder - we would appreciate if you would recommend BCC to your writer colleagues and encourage business associates in the industry to join us too. Membership on BCC is by invitation or recommendation. We appreciate it if you would kindly let us know if you have recommended someone.
Your support with this membership drive is important as it helps to forge those links that are so vital in human relationships and also help connecting us to a broader spectrum of writers and people in the book industry across Australia and internationally.
Please see we now have a chapter in Sydney and Brisbane with the possiblity of another forming in Melbourne by the end of the year. We would love to have more contributors in the southern regions of Australia and to form stronger literary links internationally. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Please note the next Brisbane Chapter conferencing will be 14 April 2012. Contributors can check notice through emails and General Notices. Public will need to rsvp.

Hello to you all.
Victoria has not been kind in providing consistent weather. Summer, I think, I saw it for 2 days.
Anyway.... I have found an illustration for the front cover of my book. I am so excited. I have forwarded the material off to FC Productions - Sydney.
Francis, what a wonderful, helpful man. Hope to have my first copy of the book in my hot hand soon.
Miss Cairns....

G`day to everyone,
I thought I might re-introduce myself to all the members of BCC, especially all the new members, I am one of the original founding members & it is so gratifying to see & proud to be involved in BCC`s growth. I was there to witness the long hours, & often into the late of night that Letizia put in to what is a growing group of innovative people from all spectres of the literary world.....I dips me lid to you Letizia. (-:
About me!...well, I penned my 1st poem in early 2007, I had never written anything before then, I was schooled in a time when if one did not perform or was mischievious (I was both) one would be "kept down" a class, thus I was 15 years old when I started high school, I attended for about 3 months then left & joined the work force, overall I have had the eqivelent schooling of a 14 year old, though life education is another matter.
In late 2007 & with a little coaxing from my sister-in-law I self published my 1st. book titled `My Small Book of Poems`. I was very surprised at the sales of my 17 poems, not only here, but this book ended up in the U.S. Canada, U.K, Ireland, Hong Kong & a bloke sent one to his Daughter in Peru...LOL!! The response to this book plus, support & encouragement from BCC, Tropical Writers & the lovely Hazel, I kept writing & in 2008 self published "Rhymes of Times". Again my book sold worldwide, I now started to look more deeply into the poetry I was writing & with the advise from Australian Bush Poets Association I was able to "hone" my skills in the art of rhymed bush poetry, also/again/still with the encouragement of lovely Hazel & other wonderful poets I started to enjoy writing different forms & styles of poetry eg. Free verse, Sonnets, traditional rhyme, Tanka & Haiku. I also attracted the eye of a small American publisher who asked me to publish a compilation of my works with him. I declined his offers until late 2010 when I agreed & we started work on my compilation, this has resulted in the recent release of "Out of Australia".

Hello everyone.
I`m sorry I have not been communicating for a while but have had a few things on my mind. I have had my right hip replaced in Dec and am getting my left hip done on 8th March. Unless you have experienced the pain associated with bone on bone (no cartilage left) you cannot appreciate the pain relief that comes with a total replacement. It is such a relief that I wish I had four legs and hips I`d get them all done and multiply the pleasure.
The BCC ethos is paying out in trumps for me as I have been in touch with Paulien in Holland who is an illustrator of note and she has just sent the first four illustrations for the children`s book we are producing together. Her work is amazing and she seems to have a great appreciation of the style required to suit each project she works on. I guess that`s why she is so successful hey?
The sequel to my first novel is underway and am still in conversation/edit/search/fingers crossed mode for the first one. It`s an interesting exercise. I guess if the first gets produced, the second one will be a lot easier. Hope you are all well and perhaps we may catch up soon.

Wow, all your blog posts are totally inspiring. Hank you are amazing!
So much to do, but gearing up for an Exhibition in April/May - Smile Within, which will have words alongside it and maybe the release of my first eBook.
Have enjoyed finding out about more bloggers and more people blogging, there are quite a few rural women bloggers and of course authors like Kirsty Berridge blogging. The heart of it is that bloggers need other bloggers and readers to visit, comment, encourage and connect with and so build communities, which builds more community, the art of blogging is also reading other blogs that you enjoy and connecting people.
So any BCC bloggers why not visit and support each other's blogs? Blogger and wordpress both have different pluses, and I work in both.
You are welcome to drop by anytime June Perkins (Pearlz Dreaming and also Gumbootspearlz)
Thanks to Letizia for all her hard work and let's see the BCC concept keep growing!

Interesting, international and innovative news below. Please read on.
I am having conversations with international contributors on innovative concepts that can benefit all of us. We have had an exciting month with several of our contributors on radio shows such as David Curran and Diana Santamaria. We have had three book launches from Qld to NSW with Leanne Peard, Olympia Rizidis and June Perkins bringing new books into the world. We are celebrating the reopening of a book shop tomorrow and local magazine that is celebrating another milestone this coming weekend. There are conversations happening about this year`s writers` festival in NQ, the next chapter meeting in Brisbane and Sydney and the inaugural in Melbourne of their chapter of Book Creators Circle.
PEN AGM in Sydney is happening this month and as ambassadors we are invited. Fr Ly has received official letters sent by Dr Carole Ford and I have sent him letters in prison and at his sister`s address.
They say the book industry is changing or many things are on the way out. I am not so sure. I see many writers keen to keep going no matter what, to work together no matter what and to put that new book out there no matter what. I speak to publishers, booksellers and editors who are more optimistic than ever.
So congratulations to this circle who are working in supporting one another and those who join us from time to time. Welcome to you all. Please do come here often read what we are up to and share your journey with us.
We`d love to hear from you.

Hi friends, members of BCC and the rest of the world,
I`m busy learning the vast eWorld of eBooks. It`s a journey full of wizards who can help you with a problem, good intentioned novices who lead you up the garden path and waylayers who obfuscate all over the esphere. More on the subject later.
I just read Pip Sheehan Lowther`s blog. I almost met here once when she was president of Tropical Writer, I wish she had stayed. I have to say I haven`t had the pleasure. BUT I have heard many good reports, congratulations Pip and Kev, I hope PEAKxPRESSion http://www.peakxpression.com/ is everything you hoped for.
I also have plans. In the last few days I acquired an Australian ABN, cool eh, and my business name is West Enterprise. West Enterprise, it kind of rolls off you tongue. Now I actually may have to do something in the way of an enterprise.
And I am. I have bought the domain name "Queensland Authors" and will soon have a web page up called, surprise, surprise, queenslandauthors.com. If you want to see what Hank is like at Web Page designing have a look at my first effort http://www.hankauthor.com/
Anyway, the purpose of "Queensland Authors" is to give writers in the FNQ region (Far North Queensland) a place to sell to Queensland and the world.
So, If you`re interested in having me convert your novel/book into an eBook format for Kindle of iPad get in touch with me. If you like the idea of "queenslandauthor" let me know, it will motivate me to work faster. Did I mention I don`t intend to charge anything for my eBook services at the present time, and my vision for "queenslandauthors" is a free web presence for all of us. From this web page I will put in links to your books for sale at any eBook seller on the Web eg. Amazon, iBooks, Sony, Koby etc etc, anywhere you put your book even traditional book stores, if you want. Let me just repeat for clarity. I see this as a benefit for all of us, me included, and I do not intend to charge anything. |

Great to read how involved so many BCC members are in various projects and how many more contributors are coming on board.
My major projects to date ( memoir, mentoring and book reviewing woven around them) are:
1/ research history and locating and making firm contact with lesser known contemporary writers of childrens poetry in FNQ This will become a presentation or a paper Eightpoets are now on board.
2/ working through NZSA and ASA to promote and finalise a visit to Cairns by my colleague, friend and mentor Auckland University tutor Joan Rosier Jones author of So You Want To Write.and Write your Family History A seminar and other events are now almost finalised for end of May.
More details of interest to members of all writing groups will soon be released. This is a personally organised opportunity for all regional writers. Guess that's enough to cover this month's activity apart from attending launches and hospital appointments. blessings hzl

PEAKxPRESSion has been borne! and is making big noises in the living room of my life.
It is a grassroots book distribution business for independently publishing authors, NZ & Australia-wide. Borne out of the repeatedly expressed need for an avenue of distribution for self- & micro-publishers, Kev & I have pulled all our book & marketing experience into one solution. It`s only A solution, not necessarily THE solution, but we`ve done our best, and will continue to do so. (My wonderful) Kev is ready to get on the road with the first presentation box as soon as we have consolidated selections for NZ & Australian markets.
If anyone is interested in what we`re doing, our website is now live: www.peakxpression.com. We come on board as a business with BCC next week, and our email is peakxpression@gmail.com.
I notice with interest what John K & other Far North writers are considering as a distribution model, and am excited about the future of books and writers.

It`s been a very busy time. Hope all are well, good to be in touch with people on facebook. I`m finding it invaluable connecting with Hazel Menehira and Paulien Bats who are helping me work on a book of poetry for children - also busy creating some ebooks, photobook and an exhibition, looking at 'The Smile Within, finding positivity after Cyclone Yasi', April-May if anyone wants to come and see it.
So much to learn but a lot of benefit from working in teams so you can get more done.
Well done Letizia for growing the networks of BCC. Hoping to get Megan Bayliss down here for a workshop sometime soon, drumming up some local interest first.

First I would like to refer to my previous blog. I mentioned a meeting on the 03 March, this will now be 10 March. This will give more time for those interested to consider the situation.
One other thing I failed to mention was that should you access either the Act or the Regulations and scroll down the Table of Contents. When you come to an item you wish to refer to just click on the number to the left of the item you wish to go to.
There are other items which will need consideration. One of these is to give the enterprise a name.
Banking is an important aspect that will need to be addressed:
whose name are accounts to be held in.
who and how many to have access of those accounts.
Membership is another that will require some consideration, type of membership, will there be fees for members, if so, how much.
How will the enterprise be funded to cover the operations. How will these funds be raised? Would costs be passed on in full, or in part, to those who benefit from the operations.
A place of operations would have to determined. Fairtrading will want to be advised of physical address, postal address, phone number, contact person/s and phone number/s.
How would receipts and payments be processed? How would orders be processed, manually or by computer? If by computer would a system and appropriate software would have to be acquired.
Should you have any query at all, feel free to contact me.

During the gathering of members of Book Creators Circle at the Rydges Esplanade resort during Saturday 18th Feb 12 I raised the subject of the formation of a volunteer group the act as a book depot for local authors and book resellers.
The aim is for book resellers to submit an order of books required for different titles and by different authors. The group would then compile orders for the different authors for all the titles of their books. The authors would then attend to the delivery of the books.
Each reseller would then make one payment for the books ordered to the Group, who would then organize and make the payments to the authors.
The first thing is for those interested in being involved to gather at a meeting and decide whether to proceed with the project or not.
There is a substantial amount of information to be become aware of or familiar with.
There are four main publications involved in creating such a venture.
The first of these is the "INCORPORATED ASSOCIATIONS Smart Business Guide" This is a very helpful item, I recommend anyone interested to download it.
The second is the "MODEL RULES". This document if adopted virtually `as is` would be accepted by the Chief Executive without question. Any alterations made to it must be within the guidelines of the Act.
The third is the "ASSOCIATIONS INCORPORATION ACT 1981" . Everything within the organization must comply with the provisions of this Act.
The fourth is the "ASSOCIATIONS INCORPORATION REGULATIONS 1999".
These regulations are the regulation any such organization as proposed must abide by and are supported by the Act.
To access any of these documents just google the name of the document. I suggest that these documents be downloaded for perusal at your leisure.
I propose that a meeting of interested persons be held on, or close to the 3rd March at an agreed place and time. I am in favour of meeting where BCC members gather each month - at Rydges Tradewinds.
Your thoughts and response would be appreciated.

Have had two very constructive mentoring lessons with my tutor Hazel Menehira, lots of conversations with Denise Marie A Distinctive Style Magazine, a few half day sessions with our Marketing Agent Megan Bayliss and several online conversations with NZ and the Netherlands. The book world is changing but people keep coming on BCC and writers keep writing.
There is nothing that can beat the joy of writing and finding inner peace through that world and means.

Last year I went to various fly-inns in NSW & QLD, made many friends and sold my book.It even sold at Birdsville (unfortunately, John has closed the museum & retired) but it is now available at William Creek for tourists to buy. Am doing another workshop and stall at our Seniors Expo this year, a good place to sell ideas and books(5-7 page precis document about - `Tips on How to Write & Publish Your Book`.
Apart from still marketing my memoir and ebook here & in USA, have begun a crime/adventure novel, set in Asia, about a massive gold heist - I have flown tons of gold ingots in the past. Sure is a change from writing non-fiction. Really have to kick my left brain into gear.
Still busy volunteering, am due to join the group of people doing hanger tours thru the Careflight offices/hanger at Coolangatta. Have been flooded in, but not flooded, good for writing!

An update on Kemu`s Journey. With a little bit of good fortune it just make it available within the next few weeks. It has been pretty much a forgotten project over these past months, so hopefully all goes well from here.
I picked up a copy of it this morning and read it again, the first time for almost a year. I found a few sections of it just a bit disturbing. Reading of some of the things that happened, knowing that it was me that it was me that it all happened to, and that it was me who put it all on paper. Time and patience. It will all come good in the end.
Cheers

So good to catch up with BCC contributors on this my only blog indulgence after weeks in New Zealand and and Fiji. Travelling is always a learning curve and visiting third world countries like Fiji is always an eye opener for a writer to reflect on. Ensconced back in comfort zone (How blessed we are) and a return to mentoring, book reviewing, and my own writing-poetry, short stories, always the memoire!... more freelance articles (good to see those recently published in print) Mentoring is joyful. I am constantly amazed at the number and diversity of emerging writers and the work they produce. Congrats to all BCC folk like Chris and Dave who have their books out.
Well done! Hope to have all my oral resource teaching books on Amazon Ebooks this year thanks to Hank
Guess that`s it for this past month..will share more conferencing Sat. A big hello and warm wishes to those attending the Brisbane gathering of BCC..cheers Letizia and.blessings to all.

To answer your question Sharon - FC Production does short run of books and print-on-demand. This should keep the costs down for you and they are friendly and can do anything you want. Some of our contributors have used them. Their details are on the Homepage or under All Contributors in the top bar.
Don`t forget to get more than one quote no matter who you source. Compare standard of work and prices. Books should be as low as possible in their unit price so that in reselling them you can make some money. In other words a book should be around $3-5 and then resells at $10-20. Today books are so cheap to buy some on Amazon are selling around 99c. I believe. This is the competition you are up against.
If you are doing the book production for yourself and family then the unit price may not be important to you. But why pay more when you don`t have to? |

Last night I went to CoCA to see "Bag It: Is your life too plastic," a documentary on plastic bags hosted by CAFNEC, Cairns Climate Action Network and the Australian Conservation Foundation.
I was familiar with most of the information but I found the plastic usage stats particularly interesting (disturbing) and one piece of information shamed me to my socks: we sell our waste to India or China where families (including children) hand pick through it looking for the most recyclable material. These families are paid very low wages, work under extremely poor conditions and are exposed to constant health threats.
This has stimulated a growling dissonance within my soul. I try to eat and buy fair trade products so that no children are harmed in my choices. Yet, as an avid recycler, I am exposing children to something sinister.
My muse has awoken and she is screaming at me to write my thoughts. I sense a paper developing here.....and a change to my workshops and daily habits of recycling.

So wonderful to see so many contributors at our Cairns first for 2012 conferencing with our Ambassador Roz Pappalardo and Aspiring writer - Denise Petersen as the speakers and, our facebook friends / contributors - Dave J Delaney, Chris Shaw, Sylvia Pattison and Megan Bayliss and other contributors such as Joyce Berendes, Bernadette Remedio, John Kemu, Dr Elaine Harding, Hazel Menehira and Hank West. So many who attended have been very our loyal contributors at our conferencing and it makes all the difference to have you on board.
I also talked about Visual Marketing with a Distinctive Style Magazine, PEN tshirts and our inaugural Brisbane conferencing for BCC. It is exciting and we welcome you all to come on our face book page at Book Creators Circle and promote. Welcome to you if you are a writer or in the book industry to join us on our BCC website or anywhere we promote ourselves and each other. Hi all, I`m home :) Three weeks away has been hard going but I had a ball crafting throughout Cape York.
I made up a story to tell the kids to put context around all the recycled craft I did. The story featured two Barramundies: Henry and lETIZIA :) Now I`ll need to write it up and send it away to a children`s educational magazine for consideration. I`ll try for Pearsons Educational as they have previously published two of my children`s stories. It is so much easier to get published when you already have a relationship with a publisher....that`s why BCC is so helpful to us all!

Another successful day not so much in my own writing but in seeing Tina Horkan complete most entries of her son`s poetry. It is great to see how we can learn new skills and the drive that can take us to new heights. Well done Tina and Kieran. I am sure Cillian must be smiling big time.

I`m back from Pormparaaw. Home for the weekend before I fly back up to Kowanyma. Jess (my colleague) recorded some kids telling me their stories: VERY rich literary data!
I had the opportunity to talk about BCC to one of the Council workers in Pormparaaw. She wants to write a book and doesn`t know how to start. It is amazing how and where opportunities to support other writers arise. We are fortunate that we have each other to bounce ideas off, talk about publishing lists and to keep current with book world information, but other emerging writers do not. This is new and uncharted waters for them which can be made easier through collective knowledge and support.
Do you talk about BCC as an option to people you meet who say they want to write a book?

Mother`s love to honour late son spurs her on to put book together this year.
Tina Horkan is a real gem. Transposing over 20 poems in one day. I would be dragged down with the emotion of it all.
Well done Tina. We can be certain that the book will be out this year at the EXPO - 22 Sept.

Have found out how to do a manuscript, am a bit of a dinosaur I`m afraid. Feeeling really excited and good and positive about the book of poetry, I am compiling with much help from Letizia, of my late son Cillian.
And nice to chat to Paulein and Peter yesterday afternoon on the BCC online.
Looking forward to meeting more of you at the conferencing in Cairns on the 21 Jan.

Just reminding everyone that I have gone walkabout: http://thejunkwave.com/2012/01/03/megan-bayliss-has-gone-walkabout-up-the-cape/
I am visiting several Aboriginal communities on Cape York to run some diversionary recyclable art programs for kids as part of AFL Cape`s Safer Kids Wet Season Program.
I get back to Cairns on the night of Jan 20 and then intend to go to Brisbane for our inaugural Brisbane Conference and to run a Smart Art workshop (and I`ll also take in the delightful Mary Poppins stage play while I am there - do you all know that the author of Mary Poppins was a QLD woman?).
I won`t be back to conferencing or ventrillo until February but I will pop into facebook from time to time.

The next step is publishing in book format.
One step at a time, one week at a time, one year at a time - if we don`t have our goals, we don`t make that step-by-step progress. All the best everyone, meeting your goals this 2012.

We are writers and we feel great having written anything.
For Christmas now I received a card from a neighour with a photo of a pink cassia tree in front of my former house. I nursed this tree along from a seed given to me by a Cairns nurseryman as he did not have any plants for sale.
I never saw it flower but was so pleased to see it had grown to a big tree. Cairns and Townsville residents will know how splendid a pink cassia can look.

A fascinating day`s work for BCC.
Just caught up with the Horkan`s and discussion of Cillian`s book has begun in earnest with a view of his book being launched in Sept at the EXPO. As a date claimer it is Saturday 22 SEPTEMBER. You heard it first on facebook so please put it in the diary and come along, have a table if you are a member and look forward to Cillian Horkan`s book coming out and celebrating this with his parents.

Hi All!
I thought I`d just pop on and say a quick hello. As some of you might know, I`m a really big Facebook and twitter user, mainly for ease of access to a wider audience. But, the BCC is turning into a force to be reckoned with, so hopefully you`ll be seeing a lot more of me on here! Thank you all for making me feel so very welcome in this writing circle!

I have decided that I am going to refocus on writing and promoting this year. BCC will still be primary focus too but some things I hope to manage differently.
My writing is going to be as an incentive to keep me going and being positive in attitude and drive. I find that just the thought of writing gives my day a lift. It helps me regroup my determination. Does anyone else feel like that? |

MeganBayliss 02 Jan 2012 at 07:02 AM |
@Chris Shaw, a virtual launch and tour saves much money. Here`s an excellent post about how to manage it all: http://blog.publishedandprofitable.com/2011/12/09/top-10-ways-to-promote-your-virtual-book-tour/

First of all may the new year be all that you wish for. May all of your desires be fulfilled.
Very little has been happening on the writing front. I just don`t seem to be able to get into it. May be after I get rid of this dog of a chest complaint I have.
I have a look at face book, it does not do a thing for me. Perhaps I will have another look at it down the road a bit but for now I can do without it.
Cheers to all.

Another year bites the dust.
Great to read all the success stories for each of you and to hear the general news.It was also good to meet up with Letizia this year in Sydney. I`m impressed with the way in which this site continues to grow - so welcome all the newbies!
This year has been an interesting year for my novel in progress. A new line of research which emerged from a random newspaper inquiry means a total rewrite of about half the book to bring it into line with what really happened. The joys of historical fiction and the joys of new Trove entries - I love and hate that site - It provides more information each week but the information also has implication such as this. When writing historical fiction, it is impossible to ignore the new research that comes to light, no matter how much it changes the story line so let;s just put head down and bum up and get it happening.
This year has also been a fantastic year for the NSW Writers Centre. We had a fantastic range of festivals and our courses just get better - http://www.nswwc.org.au/ - there is the link in case anyone wants to check it out. Our director David Ryding and his staff are to be congratulated for an amazing effort. I`m so proud to be associated with them.
Have a wonderful 2012 everyone - I look forward to hearing what you are all doing as the year progresses and thanks Letizia for another great year at BCC.

Dr Carole Ford is a mountain of strength with her work with the letter writing campaign for PEN.
I am keeping documentation of the letters she receives from international embassies, ambassadors etc in her attempt to support PEN Sydney`s campaign and our role in this.
Please note that BCC are financial supporters of PEN and also active in our ambassadorship. Please see Sydney PEN website to join for 2012. Working on this cause in any way possible can make a difference to one of 1000 writers currently silenced because of their writing. Join today or pass on the information. |

Hi all!
It`s been a big year for me too! Am onto my second print and second edition of my book "The Secrets of the Pebbles" (book and CD)...have written and recorded another music track which I love, have been promoting my book and doing launches all around the place, still selling copies (sales pick up with launches) then ease off in between launches but still slowly selling. My book is up on Amazon as well as my own site and another south coast bookstore and Shearers in Leichardt.
I have two children`s books to launch this year and have no idea how I will even start promoting them! Am awaiting illustrations soon!
All the best to all for 2012...I need a rest from all the festivities and book stuff...but famous last words...I know I`ll be back at it in the new year.

Welcome, 2012!
Many people have been awaiting your arrival. Well done Peter Mack, and yes, I understand the concept of editing to the point that the whole becomes greater than the original. Well done David, I wish you all the luck in the world with your new book. My `Nooky' Book is finally finished, and I have hard copies in my hot little hand, finally! I`m really happy with the finished product and hope to be embarrassed by riches. In the meantime, it seems as though the cover and title become a mirror. Readers react to what they THINK is between the covers and it shows their mind-set. `Disgusting!` one women complained. She hadn`t read it of course. `What is it about "Hey, Guys!" that you don`t understand?` I asked her. Collins Booksellers at Smithfield have been very supportive, thank you.
So, now for promotion, learning about Media Releases, Flyers, signings and so on. My last launch cost me about $500. Anyone have any ideas how I can do this cheaper? (Apart from not inviting my unreliable, drunken friends that is?)
Good luck to everyone in 2012.

I continue to industry write to my blog site, http://www.thejunkwave.com and in my weekly newsletter that goes world wide.
I have started reading hard copy books again (opposed to on-line reading that I constantly do), something I haven`t done for a while and am thoroughly enjoying it.....next off the line in David`s novel, Ever Essence, and it will follow with a public book review on my site.
I am loving watching the connections and business being made between Book Creators Circle members and am grateful to be a part of a wider professional support network. Having illustrators, editors, designers and reviewers at our fingertips is invaluable.
Thank you, Letizia for all that you have put into building Book Creators Circle. The dividends are there for those who choose to draw on them.
Now go away....I don`t want to talk to any of you for the rest of the year! ;)

It has indeed been an exciting month, with two of my authors publishing their books. Congratulations to David Curran for publishing his futuristic novel, "Ever Essence", with Book Pal. For more information about the book, see http://everessenceworld.com/ and www.bookpal.com.au.
Congratulations also to Chris Shaw on publishing his self-help book for men, entitled "Hey, Guys! Here`s How You Get More `Nooky`!" with FC Productions. To find out what the book is about (apart from the obvious message in the title), you can go to www.writersandbooks.com.au.
It has been a great pleasure working with both of these talented authors. Of course, one of the greatest pleasures an editor has is seeing a book one has worked on for so many hours making it to the printing and publishing stages. This month equals double happiness!

Dear Book Creators,
Have had an amazing year, 14 blogs, 24 photos and 4 videos created for ABCopen Aftermath. Watch out for a special website in January. Have had 4 pieces and two photographs going into publication in two books on Cyclone Yasi as well, released in Dec and Feb.
This year has been about creating a digital footprint and about to launch into some new directions with my writing for next year. Really trying to generate income from my work, lots of donations of work to worthwhile causes this year.
Working towards some solo books and looking forward to forming more connections, networks and creating books!
Hope to get to know more of you.
Best wishes

November... where did it go? What an eventful month to add to my list of eventful months.
The WINQ and Licuala Writers groups have merged to become one enormous group of writers covering an enormous piece of landscape, we have had a successful meeting and managed to have a book stall at the local markets selling about 16 books in 3 hours - phew.
Personally I am re-writing my novel...eeek, and today have given myself a break from that to re-write one of my picture books and continue on the illustrations...
A dilemma... to self publish the picture book or not?? If only I knew of a great book distribution company??

Greetings to all! In a word I`ve been "busy"...the tiring type of busy but the exciting kind of busy post book/music release of "The Secrets of the Pebbles". Am now onto my second print run and second edition...oh yes, we always see something else after a book is in print...tell me we all do and I`m not alone in that!
I`ve been busy doing a book launch in Sydney (late September), book blogging is becoming interesting, have set up a business (conversion of books to e-books and setting up webpages for writers..see my webpage for more information), finding out the ins and outs of how we can promote further on the internet, putting my ebook into Shearers in Leichardt, Sydney, getting it as an ebook onto Amazon, a book signing planned this Friday in Ulludulla on the NSW south coast at a lovely book shop there, and a presentation of my book and music the next day at a delightful winery called Cuppitts Winery (all being presented over a Mediterranean lunch).
The most amazing synchronicities have occurred and are occuring following sending a copy of my book to Miss June Dally-Watkins who I had the great pleasure of having coffee with one-to-one last Thursday. Her autobiography "The Secrets Behind My Smile" was written in the same place in which my book is set (Filicudi - a little island located north-east of Sicily, Italy)...too detailed and too amazing to go into on here, but incredible "magic" that is beyond anything I can describe easily has resulted from many things contained in her book which have resonated with things in my own (and I did not even know her book had been written, let alone written in Filicudi) when I released mine! In essence the path post putting my book out there has resulted in extraordinary connections...so much to tell right now, but all good!
Wishing you all the very same magic in your own writing endeavours and your voyage getting your books out there...if you have "a feeling" that you should do something..or just want to do something, follow that little voice, and just do it!!
Wishing you all. Diana Santamaria (Sydney) |

Greetings, Rebecca and I wish you a great Christmas and a very constructive and satisfying New Year. May your bank accounts be overburdened with money from your hard work, and may your satisfaction level from writing achieve new heights. Had an enjoyable meeting with Ken Cotterill on Saturday @ Rydges. I wasn`t able to speak to him when he gave his talk (last BCC meeting) as he was surrounded by the ladies! I`m told (by him) that this happens a lot to Yorkshire men!
There seems to be an unending saga at the pointy end of book completion. My `Nooky` book has been on the verge of publication for about a month, but maybe this is normal. I shall have to talk to some real writers about this! Anyway, it`s nearly there, so just a little more patience, Chris. May you be full of goose, ham, pudding and great ideas over the festive season, and return renewed in 2012.

Well..I did it. I finished the novel 2 days ago and am starting on the first edit ie: deletion of all the ifs, ands and buts. I expected to go from 130,000 words to about 11 after that but in fact went to 131,000. The first edit is close and I need to decide which way to go. The long haul with publishers, the short cut with eBooks or just sell it online as a download.
I am also working with Paulien Bats in Holland on a children`s book I wrote and she is looking at the graphics. Touch wood we will have a result soon. Hope you are all well and writing up a storm.

An exceptionally busy month this one, as a result I am now resting and pacing myself for NZ trip to grandaughter`s wedding on Dec 29. In retrospect highlight after Expo was theTropic of the Imagination conference and the opportunity to present Spriritual Poetry in the Tropics, the historical background and to include grassroots poetry by local poets including some BCC folk.Completed book review of award winning Worst of Days (KarenKissane) for JCU LiNQ`next publication and also have an article on book reviewing for NZSA magazinbe, and short stories upcoming in Dec Theosophia N.Z.Magazine.
Hank and I have both had poetry in Connect magazine recently and and his short story 'The Fisherman' has been well received by readers. Latest book review on Media-Culture Words web page is Classical Prose-Plain and simple as the Truth is one I recommend to my mentoring session students.
Private writing or manuscript mentoring welcomed but group sessions for prose and poetry will recommence last week in January.
Hank is deep into E book technology and will share his Amazon -Kindle expertise and experience working independently and for Free at next BCC networking. His novel SCORZA will be on Amazon E books by then following my own Seer Stone novel. Please email us any particular areas you would like addressed before the conferencing.
The great thing about BCC contributors is their willingness to share experience in the industry...thanks Letizia for all you undertake for us. Blessings to you...Hazel and Hank

END OF NOV BLOGROLL
We now officially have a Creative Space that works alongside the Writers` Forum each Tuesday.
I have met with Professor Fraser(UTS) and again next week to talk about an international body to protect works of the mind and how we, as Book Creators Circle, can support.
Finally our affiliation with PEN is forging and this gives me great pleasure. It is wonderful to see firsthand what PEN is doing and how it supports people such as Professor Katharine Gelber to win the Thomas Keneally award for her work in human rights.
From a writer`s reflection - my next piece of writing is a Writers` Journal documenting my trips away and all the great people I meet doing exceptional things to work with writers and support the Australian literary world. Maybe one day this will become a book.

Alas. I did not keep my promise of writing daily this week but achieved other things for self, as a writer, and other writers.
Our creative space is being used on Tuesday for the Writers` Forum and will be used again while I am in Sydney - Well done Darran and Sylvia.
Leandro with ABC Open has been very instrumental in getting some writers`profile in ABC. I have learnt to use Facebook and more confident with our teleconferencing and am proud that we connected NZ, Netherlands, Coffs Harbour and Mareeba all in one night. Not sure whether Mareeba would stay connected but miracles do happen.
It has been an exciting week getting ready to go to Sydney and I am encouraging anyone and every one who comes on to read this Blgoroll to come and join our Book Creators Circle on facebook. It is easy and it will be a great way for us to raise our profile and stay connected. This technophobic attitude will not do. So please come and see.
What will you be writing tomorrow for 11.11.11? Think about how to commemorate this momentous date, a once off in your life-time. LDR |

I have been invited to the Thomas Keneally Award night on the 15 Nov - Day of the Imprisoned Writer. I figure this will be the highlight of the year an excellent way to raise profile, especially for Book Creators Circle. Through our Ambassador role all of our contributors have been invited and a few Sydney contributors will be coming along to that event.
I think that my writing discipline has to take precedence over book work and business stuff this week. If you don`t write daily it becomes harder and harder to do. Once I start and are at it a few hours I find that it flows. LCDEROSA |

It`s a very exciting time for me, having two of my authors about to publish their books. I`m looking forward to seeing the final version of David Curran`s "Ever Essence". It was a great pleasure to edit this book for David, and share some of his exceptional energy and drive.
Chris Shaw and I are putting the final touches to his new book before publication. I won`t steal Chris`s thunder by telling the name of the book. I`ll leave it to him! Likewise, it has been a very enjoyable experience editing Chris`s book and sharing his quirky brand of humour. After this book has been "put to bed", so to speak.

I`m having great success with my book "The Dutch Migrants". I had it printed with a local printer and am now having a second print. For that I had to go to Shanghai KS Printing and the difference in price was astronomical.
My book is selling well, of course it`s a limited market as only people who came here from the Netherlands are buying it although it`s written in English.
So sorry I couldn`t attend your expo, I`ll try next year.
I`m disappointed with Bookpal, they haven`t sold any of my books. At least Strategic Book Group is doing much better they sold my book 'Guilty Until Proven Innocent' in Taiwan.

I too totally loved the Book Expo and met some marvelous people! Such talent within this group, such support...thank you so much Letizia and crew for making it not just a fruitful event, but for giving me the opportunity to launch my book and Cd "The Secrets of the Pebbles`. I was invited to speak on Cairns radio and was put to air by the lovely couple, Bev and Pieter Blaauw. I`ve been looking into a getting a strong PR campaign and have found myself a wonderful agent!! I am really going hard into the pre-Christmas marketing, and this particular lady I have found through sheer synchrnonicity!)sounds to be a wizz! I hope that my energy levels stay ramped up! I don`t expect this to be a walk in the park! Also, have been doing well through my own distribution site www.dianasantamaria.com/blackchicken and will tell you all more about that hopefully in the next blogroll! No question about it though, books don`t sell themselves!! The selling side of writing is definitely a new area to me! I`d much rather be writing. That`s what it`s all about in the end!
Love to all and I will definitely be there at next years`s Expo!! Diana Santamaria |

That was a great Book Expo! In these times when money is tight - ask any retailer - that was a tremendous result. The speakers were superb, the venue was very good, and our backup people wonderful. The only drawback was the backlighting for the photographers - so use flash! There`s room to improve on the number of people coming through next year. Peter Mack, I`m pleased to hear everything is going well at your end. You`re getting on bit to be a gypsy! Chris Shaw |

Hello everyone
I am so pleased that the Expo was a success and hopefully I`ll find myself there again one day. Congratulations Letizia.
After almost ten years of traveling and roaming I am finally close to being home back in Coffs Harbour. I will be settling into a new address on Wednesday next week and looking forward to it. I have caught up with my kids and grandchildren a number of times and it will be so much easier when I get to `move in`
The novel is taking me on so many journeys and just this morning flipped over to 90,000 + words and will probably finalize around 120,000. Hard to say. It may find somewhere else to take me.
Hope you are all well and after a big family scare recently here all is well again. Go the Sea Eagles for the 2011 RL Grand Final on Sunday. Peter D Mack |

Wow what a fabulous time I had at the Cairns expo. Letizia is a star for organising such a fruitful event.Three hundred books were sold! Besides mature book lovers, children were tugging at parents' pockets to purchase books.
I made great new connections, especially with the Doctor Lindsay crime (factual) writer who encouraged me to purchase an Ipad for future public speaking! Now I can blame Lindsay for purchase on credit card to my husband. Thanks to Megan for airport pick up and making me laugh.
I met so many wonderful new and established writers.Well done Letizia, not even the writers centre in Sydney can create such a buzz. I hope to come next year as it was such a wonderful event.

END OF MONTH BLOGROLL
The purpose of the end of month blogroll is to share successes, information about the book industry and to keep us on track with our writing.
Our 'collective' success this month has been our third EXPO. 150 readers bought 280 books. Something for all us to be proud of. Thanks to all who made it a success by putting ourtflyers, talking to the media and working to make this a real success. We have gone from strength to strength.
NO need to thank me in the blogroll please, thank yourselves for sharing your time and making it a success for each other.
Let`s keep sharing information that we can each learn from and as Dr Lindsay Simpson said in her speech yesterday."Today`s writers are more in control of their destiny."
On BCC we try to give you a great Google ranking and another platform to network. There is no magic in book promotion. It is how we do things, how we maximise opportunities and create our destiny. |

Happy International Day of Peace to you all.
For any of you that have websites or blogs, please consider advertising the Book Expo by writing a post about it. I have posted one this morning that you can copy (just change the personal info to reflect yourself).
Copy this link into your address bar to go to the post and take what you want: http://thejunkwave.com/2011/09/21/book-expo-in-cairns-saturday-24-sept/
This is a lovely way to give further exposure and profiling to our members who are running workshops.
I have search engine optimised my post to the maximum, so I sincerely hope the workshops fill and we attract zillions of book buyers to the expo. |

Hello cherubs:
this month I have been busy writing curricula at MOM Training College. I am about to launch a Cert IV in Youth Work...all written by moi. It is GREAT that a local business employs local writers (MOM has a table at the expo so come and appraise the vast range of certificate course that writers can write to).
I have also been writing "how to" craft sheets for The Junk Wave. They are trialling a retail range of recycled craft kits and the most important part of the kit is the "how to" sheet. This is MUCH fun and I am in my element. There`s nothing boring about being a writer and the avenues of employment/contracting are wide once you think laterally about what writing is....the need for the written word is EVERYWHERE.

Congratulations Stephen on your new book. Well done as always.
Congratulations Megan Bayliss with your Facebook entries that give us all so much profile. Thanks for talking about our different contributors and highlighting the upcoming EXPO this weekend!
A year to plan and pull off but here we are a year later. Great speakers - yes Spike`s daughter - Laura Milligan and Dr Lindsay Simpson. We have one book launch this year because book launches are special and one should be celebrated at a time. Diana Santamaria is coming up from Sydney for it and so are her friends!
Helen Ross and Dan Kelly - Boolarong Press are up from Brisbane and the list goes on. We have over 30 exhibitors at the expo and keeping it small to make sure this year`s is more professional and beautiful than ever.
We are well and truly on the way with International PEN getting profile and our subtle theme of `Peace through reading and peace through writing` will be highlighted too. We are going to have fun, fun, fun and with an MC like Megan Baylis and her buddy Chris Shaw what less can we expect.
If you are a reader come join us and pick up a new book. If you are a writer, come and be inspired and if you are a member of BCC then be proud!

Hi all,
Just wanted to let you know that, "The Music of the Soul:A pathway to a rich and fulfilling life, is available as an e-book on Kindle". My partner, Camilla reckons these Kindles are just the bees-knees! Also, spots are filling fast for the "Unlocking Your Creative Potential" workshop on Sun 25th Sept. ... better to book-in than be disappointed.

How blessed we are to have close friends and colleagues to wrap us in supportive comfort and security when we suffer the loss of those we love and cherish. Letizia many arms are around you at this time and as Chris says the energy we put into the Expo is a tangible practical way of showing this. It will be GREAT!
Here on the homefront writing, reviewing, mentoring continues daily. Two recent highlights- after volunteer mentoring Deanna Quayle monthly from 2005-9 her book 'Walk My Story' will be launched this Tuesday at Canopy Arts. Always with a nose for a good story I wanted to write her life and the cracks she had fellen through myself but now it will be released in her own words.I am so happy for her. The other highlight is that my historical novel 'The Seer Stone' is now a Kindle E book due to Hank`s dedication to technology study. His novel 'Scorza' and the rest of my books will follow....when we aren`t enjoying breaks on the beach between our own writing......
We are off to Yungaburra Book Festival and will promote BCC and the Expo to EVERYONE!!!! My workshop on for 25th Sept - Sunday is already prepared.... HAZEL MENEHIRA |

I`m sure all members of BCC mourn the passing of Enza. Letizia`s mother. The greatest practical help we can be to Letizia is to give her all the help and support we can for this EXPO. Give of your time, energy and expertise, and get as many people along as we can. Next year she will be much stronger, but right now she needs all the help she can get. On a personal note, I have another Distinctive Style magazine article ready to go, have contributed to Danielle Ellis`s blog about writing, and am making progress on my Nookie book. It takes time and application to learn a new craft - only 10 years to go and I`ll have some idea of what I`m doing - maybe! |

END OF MONTH BLOGROLL
Writing has had a back seat for some time in my life but there were books in the cupboard waiting to come forth for well over three years. `My Mother`s Thoughts` of course will be out in time for the expo this year and I hope that three other works find their way to the light. LCDEROSA |

It seems us writers turn to the world within us when we grieve, when we laugh, when we remember, when we project and dream of the possibilities. Such beautiful words by so many fellow-writers on here - I am handling the stress of having completed my first book, by getting my next ready...in writing and creativity I too find solace. Kindest regards to all, and a special thank you to Letizia who kept me sane through the journey.....onward ho with my next little creation and glad to be connected with others who are doing the same. The 30th July 2011 all who knew her were saddened by the passing of Vincenza De Rosa. A lady of a deep inner beauty that is so rare, it radiated from her to infected all who were around her. One lady of sophistication and fineness. A gracious lady of class from an era in which class was distinction.
Let us pause for a while a spare some thought for this lovely person. Also, please, a thought for Letizia her daughter and of the burden that she has borne for over a year. Pray for her comfort
and that the lightening of the load she bears.
Thank you.

Have been sitting with the feeling of the loss of our mothers Letizia and when finding things in my house which are mother`s, I converse with her just like old times. It`s a year since mumma died, I was picked up by June Perkins who was egged on to ring me by a mutual friend. I have been writing ever since.
My mother was a lover of poetry and recited Keats & Tennyson on beach and woodland walks. It was Letizia`s written stories and love of her parents that inspired me and to write my poems to my mother this past year, which are precious and tender.
Thank you Letizia and June.

Though I am grieving my mother`s passing I have committed to getting this year`s expo organised and underway for 24 Sept. At the professional level I have lots of support so we should be fine. At the literary and personal level I am desperately aiming at getting 4 books out that have been waiting to see the light of day, so to speak and come out into this big world of books. One is dedicated to my dear mother, 'My Mother`s Thoughts', which are her views on life with the last entry 14 May. How quickly our lives can change. I am glad I learnt so much more about that beautiful woman who has now become my inspiration to continue to write. I now know my love of language came from her. Regardless of her dementia, she was still able to use the written word to unscramble her thoughts. I am so honoured to see this last light in my mother and to give life to her thoughts through the written word. Letizia C De Rosa |

I`ve been out of the loop for awhile caring for my daughter who is unwell - challenging times. However, the one thing that lights my way is writing. It takes me into my silent world, the place that is mine alone, accessible only by me, my haven. What a gift to be a writer, a member of Book Creators Circle, part of the greater world of literature. Recent feedback about a feature article I wrote was like receiving a precious gift: `You write so beautifully. I love your article, the different style and the beautiful message within.` Let`s continue to encourage, empower and enrich each others lives. We are separate but not alone! Gay Liddington |

For weeks my writing was impotent and I could not find the correct dosage of Viagra for it. When I heard that Mrs De Rosa died, I remembered a piece I had written on death – I re-read my writing and was again inspired to pen pure emotion. I revisited my senses, my rawness and my wishes for future generations…..and from there, creativity flowed. Thank you Letizia’s mother. You will always be remembered. Megan Bayliss |

The first section of the paper I had written and spoke about at last month's gathering of Book Creators Circle has been published in that mag, along with a selection of photos. LIU XIA & THE SUPPORTERS OF LIU XIAOBO
As always the seat for the missing writer was present at the June conferencing of the BCC but this time I found the latest support by Sydney PEN for members of the ICPC, written down for me to read. I share this with you.
Sydney Pen http://pen.org.au/ reports a crackdown recently on the Chinese human rights defenders who celebrated the Award 2010 Nobel Peace prize to Dr. Liu Xiaobo.
Liv’s wife; Liv Xia has been held under de facto house arrest by Chinese authorities. Writers, lawyers & human right activists throughout China have been summoned, detained, house arrested or forced to return to Home Regions. Over one hundred individuals have suffered various forms of unlawful infringements due to their support of Liv’s freedom & his prize. Many of these individuals are members of the Independent Chinese PEN center. (ICPC) Sydney PEN is undertaking communication with the Australian Government and you are warmly invited to go on line to sign public petition letters.
How fortunate are we that our pathways to freedom here in Australia have been carved before us and we are constantly encouraged as a culture to keep these pathways open! Kate for Licuala Writers |

Settled in the Grafton area an hour from Coffs so I see my 2 daughters and 2 grandchildren regularly and am enjoying that to the fullest. Very busy work wise and after a fantastic start in my novel 10,000 words in the first week I again painted myself into a corner and couldn`t find a way out and suddenly last week the light came on + and off I go again.
New issue of the magazine I write for is due out on 1st. July and should be available on this site to download. Am very frustrated with the online marketing and have built a number of good, average and not so good sites and am now starting to promote them in earnest. Hope you are all well. Peter D Mack |

"Kemu`s Journey" has had a proof copy, been printed and proof-read by Stephen Chong. Thank you Stephen and thanks for the great review of the book.
Comments have been received from a few who have read the text. Some found the contents confronting. I suggest that anyone reading it and finding it confronting to set the book aside, deal with the issue confronting them, then get rid of it. Return to the book when you feel like it. There is no time constrains on reading it.
I just hope it is of benefit to people.

Hello, all. While I`ve not had a very productive month, I`ve been to that Romance Writers` roadshow that Chris attended and met new people (Chris was the exception to the gender rule, which was nice to see) and made contacts for when I head to Melbourne briefly in August. I`m still involved with the Ravenshoe group and have an exciting trip on Thursday to talk to Byblos Books in Mareeba about a first-edition that we were given some years ago by Lennie Wallace, bless her. Published in 1897, it has two important signatures - AB Patterson and Venour Nathan. Quite exciting. Will keep you posted. I`m also polishing short stories and some poetry for possible competition entry. Cheers all. Jean |

Hi ...well this is my only Blog indulgence and May has been pretty eventful.
Good news from N.Z.is that I have had a submission accepted for the P.M.`s Lit.Awards and as the criteria for acceptance is very high I am delighted.
That with sales of my children`s poetry book 'Kowhai Park is Kooland' the non-fiction park history have made May memorable. We go plodding along writing daily and to get uplifting news such as this is a joy. So too is monthly contact with BCC folk. Last gathering was informative and enjoyable. Letizia`s vision for BCC always impresses.
I am currently finalising drafts of poems and short stories and gearing up for mentoring sessions to begin last Tues and Thurs of month.Blessings to you all and happy writing hours!

My `Nookie` book is with Macmillan`s and I`m ambivalent about that. I enjoyed leading the meeting on Saturday with Megan and Kerstin, both of whom made valuable contributions to our knowledge.
The following Saturday I girded my old loins and attended the Romance Writers of Australia Road-show at the Colonial Club, where I found that I was the only fox in the henhouse, but didn`t get pecked to death. It was very enlightening but as the 60:1 ratio mirrors, it is a genre of convoluted, cryptic and multi-layered complexity, far beyond the mental acuity of this mere male! However, thanks to all for your hospitality.
Now off to Gold Coast and the Hunter Valley to pick up some Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar, and to see some old friends!

I continue to write modules for a Cert III in Education Support and in Youth Work. However, this last month provided an opportunity for me to read more and I picked up Eat, Pray, Love. What a wonderful contribution to the genre of Life Writing and it will be used as an example of the genre in the Life Writing Workshop I plan to offer in September. |

END OF MONTH MAY BLOGROLL
Endeavouring to understand the IP world of Ipads etc and putting it on the `to do` list.
Mentoring is my priority at present. I am being mentored by a small group of international BCC contributors who listen to my work and give feedback.
My main literary project is engaging with my mother in capturing her last thoughts. It is an interesting role to be the daughter writer cum scribe, translator, commentator of ideas cum keeping the word alive in a woman who is your mother and who unfortunately has dementia. Her world of words is dieing and the writer/daugher in me does not want this to happen. It is an emotionally interesting time for me as this circumstance has determined the next book I put out and the reason why. I believe that for most writers there is something that drives that new or next book. My writing career has definitely always been determined by circumstance. |

I swear that it is all of you who have kept me going! I am so close to printing of my book right now...have also now recorded 3 of the music tracks to accompany my book (another whole day session is happening tomorrow)...Have spoken with Francis Chuah, who is printing and distributing my book for me...what a lovely man who can`t do enough to help!
Also am meeting with the person who is making my YouTube for me this Friday...and about to begin promoting the book on a special site for children of people from the part of the world in which my book is set.
The energy at the moment is incredible...sooo much happening. And people are just so willing to "do their thing" and to do it well!
Amazing times for me and exciting ones! Any ideas on any interesting "book signings" would be most welcome! |

Although I joined BCC over a month ago, this is the first opportunity I`ve had to say hello and make an introduction to the community blog. It also happens to bfemy first time blogging so I`ve thought long and hard about what would be of interest to everyone.
I have just spent the last six months travelling around south east Asia and have to say, found many sources of inspiration for a travel novel/ factual book. I just need to decide what direction I want to go in. The sights, smells and sounds of a country like Vietnam still feel very fresh and as I kept a blog along my journey, feel I could use these memories to start a tale. I was travelling on my own for large stretches of it so really had a monopoly on everything deciding when and what I saw. Anyway, all of my experiences and the incredible people I met have given me lots of ideas and energy to write. So many of you have lots of experience that gives me the confidence to see what I could achieve with my own ideas.
A massive thanks to Letizia for inviting me to be part of such a supportive and talented group of individuals. Charlotte |

BACK FROM BUSINESS TRIP IN SYDNEY
Publishers' seminar was interesting in that there is an increased number of younger people involved in publishing houses, conversation around eBooks and conversion houses, Qcodes, digital publicity and its importance - (notes to follow under Writers Circle on site).
Meeting with President of PEN Sydney most productive with future opportunities discussed and our Ambassador role outlined. New Chapter in Sydney will meet every few months in Sydney Adyar in Bathurst St with the next conferencing planned for November.
Several meetings with potential publishers who are looking at joining BCC and writers with high profile prepared to join because they can see the benefits for working collectively and having exposure in another network.
This vision grows each week with new dimensions and possibilities. Proud of the people on board and of those we attract.
Thanks to all for your support in keeping the blogroll active, sharing your ideas and being proactive in raising your own profile on this site and more importantly, in supporting each other when and where possible.
The relationships we build are our future investment at all levels of our lives whether we are writers or book industries and where ever we are in the world.

Hello everyone. I am finally settled back into Coffs Harbour lifestyle and after 10 days it seems like I never left. I have been away for about 10 years on and off but am now here for the final chapters of my life; let`s hope they are long chapters and plenty of them. I saw my third grandchild for the first time and am enrasptured by all three of them. I have missed so much thus far but will stay close from now on. The new mindset has made a change that I am enjoying and my novel that has been on the shelf for the past year has progressed from 20,000 words to a little over 30,000 in the last week. Hope you all had a nice Easter and all the best for the rest of the year.

Good morning all!
Here I am after a long absence from the activities of BCC due to the fact that my life and work dramatically changed direction early last year. I began my writing career 32 years ago and it is very much an integral part of who I am even though, like the moon, it waxes and wains. This new path led me, at the age of 59, to create my business, `Power of Choice` - a liberating move! I recently asked myself how this relates to writing and BCC and the relevance of it all. Am I still `a writer`? My answer: "I love words! Their colour, their power, their ability to create turns me on...lights me up! Some artists use clay, paint, metal, etc. A writer uses words. Right now I use words to create wonderfully empowering workshops and retreats for women. The next `Power of Choice for Women Retreat` will be on 12-14 August at Heaven in the Hills, Maleny.
All power to the writer of words!

Hi all! I love this page and seeing how amazing and energetic and "human" its writers are! My dream of getting my book and accompanying music CD is gathering momentum. My book is nearly through its editing phase (I hope its final one!) and I am cutting the first track of my CD tomorrow! I`m so excited about the concept of music written by me accompanying my book - it will hopefully "set the scene" at a whole new level for readers. It`s all truly "happening" right now and so very close to completion. Can`t wait for the day I can say "mission completed"...that day is now within view....ahhhhh......nice feeling!

Hi everyone this is my first blog.Yeah I`m a blogger now.Such a strange word blog!I
Started writing children`s books 3 years ago and luckily got a deal with Penguin.Over previous years I`d squiraled away ideas and doodles. Children, divorce, (remarried happily)pets, washing, etc seemed to demand all my time.Suddenly the kids were grown and I found myself with time.
I started my writing journey by joining the writers centre and gaining access to mentor Mark McCloud. With his help and guidance I got my first book deal.
My third book in the Hocus Pocus series, is being released early May 2011.Hocus pocus Jellypoo Blues. Now I`ll blog off.

I have just posted new posts on my blog. Please visit http://misshelenwrites.wordpress.com
BCC has sooo much talent. If you are a `successful` independently published author (the word `successful` is open to broad interpretation eg. living your dream, sold out your print run, exceptional reviews, or are having an amazing `writing` journey, etc.) I would love to interview you for my blog. At this stage, I am chiefly a children`s writer, but authors of any genre welcome.
Thanks, Helen Ross(Brisbane) |

Hi everybody! It`s Saturday morning and my thoughts flicked to my chores for the day which flicked to - is it a BCC Saturday morning?
"Well obviously not", I replied to myself, because I am now planted in Brisbane and it isn`t the 3rd Saturday of the month anyway. I experienced an empty moment. A witnessing of all the small and big things you lose when you leave a life in one place for another. I love it here but it is not painted in yet. There are big spaces uninhabited by the once regular company of close and not so close but still valued acquaintances. The comings and goings that make up the small precious moments of human interactions and place. I miss BCC and the people within so hello to you all ... love Robyn Ressom(Brisbane) |

Welcome to the Fan-palm writers (Licuala) to the group, and to Charlotte from Edinburgh. (Rebecca and I visited Holyrood House last time there and have the tea-towel!) Well done to John for your first blog. Keep it up, it`s quite painless, and lovely to see. Thanks also to David and Margie for your talks, inspirational! One of my manuscripts is with Macmillan`s and I`m waiting with baited breath. It`s the one I call my `Nookie` book, actual title, `Hey Guys! Here`s how you get more "Nookie!" ` It`s a serious attempt to bring harmony and understanding to marriages and partnerships, and I don`t know any better way of getting a guy`s attention. Have been fishing, caught three `babies` and fell out of the boat.....twice! `Age shall not weary them...` Rubbish! Chris Shaw |

END OF APRIL BLOGROLL
Very excited about new chapter starting this week in Sydney. Meeting at Adyar Bookshop Monday at 4pm with Diana Santamaria, James Knight, Warren Wickman and new contributor Diane Murray to inaugurate the event.
Tuesday - attending the Aust Publishers Assoc seminar on creating the book with publishers etc giving a current overview of processes essential to the industry. Notes will be made available. Meeting that evening with Irina Dunn - past coordinator of festivals in NSW and of the NSW Writers' Centre.
Wednesday - meeting with Prof Fraser International PEN President to discuss BCC's Ambassador role with PEN etc and later that day with FC Productions to discuss eBooks and other deals for our contributors.
Thursday - last day for meeting with contributors - new and old. If you have contacts in Sydney, please pass on our details. I'll make time to meet potential contributors. The joy of this work is that it begins the cross pollination of members, puts in place the building blocks for Book Creators Circle and its contributors, and moves us one step closer to my vision for this concept. Sorry to miss the last BCC gathering....but nannas have to forgo writing commitments somtimes...hence recent trip to Sydney for granddaughter`s 21st.
How pleasant it is to be back in one`s writing comfort zone..but how necessary it also is to occasionally get out there!!! explore new environments ...with the young at a Fahion Faux Pas party...different energies...setting the mind into a creative frenzy!!! for more short stories or the venture into a chick lit novel...of course I am back writing up book reviews and editing first and second draft poems and stories...but the ideas folder has certainly grown thanks to making a big effort to shift out of my comfort zone...we writers have to feed that head space continually and in 65 years of daily writing I have never felt like giving it away.We write because that is what we do!!!!!!
Oh meantime Hank, who wheelchaired me through the long Sydney airport, is immersed in his new pc design programmes. Blessings to all and a warm welcome to new BCC contributors. Hazel Menehira |

Sharing our `story` whether we are a first time blogger, an aspiring writer, an academic or a visitor allows each of us the opportunity to grow. I think the value of blogging is in the connections it forms and the dialogue it can potentially begin. Giving opinions, sharing perspectives and respectfully having our say is all vital in healthy literary and mental growth.
I take my hat off to `first time bloggers` because you have been watching and now have stepped out to join in this blog.
Writing blogs like keeping journals allows us to begin new journeys and reach destinations totally unknown. LDR |

Congratulations Peter on covering such an important subject. I`m very much looking forward to your piece on Autism in A Distinctive Style next issue. My son was born in 1962, when doctors were reluctant to use the word Autism and knew so little about it.

I find myself really pondering the point LDR makes in the previous post that "being a writer is having something to say." I consider, yes this is true, but it is also so much more - it is being a listener, a translator of what is being seen or heard, a searcher of what is being said and felt under the surface, an interpretor of what is being reflected on. I wonder, is writers block often simply not having anything to say, and if so, do we need to honor it more positively, with a trust, that when we have something to say again, we will be ready with our skills and our will... Of course LDR makes the point that financial freedom and a room of one`s own facilitates the mechanical means to be a writer, but "having something to say" can be more powerfully and politically originated in NOT having these things, it is just expressed differently. I find myself closing off on this musing with the thought that the path of writing is neither mapped, nor walked, simply in a straight line. pip sheehan lowther |

LCDEROSA 09 Apr 2011 at 12:59 PM |
Dear John, contributors and visitors to this blog,
I strongly believe that it is not in having a book that makes a writer but in what is written on someone`s heart. Having said that I also believe that we must all write and write daily for our skills to improve. The craft of writing is like anything else it takes work, dedication and the will to learn. If you are a writer then things are on your heart that need to be expressed and for some it can take a life-time to be released to the world. Most people do not have the opportunities that support being a writer. Virgina Wolf tells us we need at least some money and a room for the financial freedom and the head space to write. We should count ourselves fortunate when we can write, can do so freely and have given ourselves permission to do so.
Let the critics tell you that you can`t and let the worst critic of all - yourself, stop you. Then what?
Take each day to do some form of free writing or prompted writing, and begin with one step at a time. The rest is committment.

I've just received a very welcomed email from our Letizia advising me that I have a very high status on Google through Book Creators and to check it out. I did and there it is, right up there at the top of the list. My appreciation and thanks to those responsible. Just love it.
The more I have association with BCC the more the name Kemu rests more comfortably with me. Congratulations Letizia on your creation and to those who contribute to making it what it is. Just like you to know that this is my first blog ever. Thank you.

Inspiration for my journalistic writing - I was in a supermarket check out a couple of weeks ago and the two ladies in front of me were loudly complaining about the behaviour of a youngster in the queue. I got home, turned on the ABC radio (Is there any other station?) and there was an interview with a lady who was the mum of an Autistic child and was giving a workshop the next day in Mackay. Something resonated with me so I called the ABC got her number, called her and the next day I spent it at her workshop. I proved to myself beyond a shadow of doubt that the little guy in the supermarket was an autistic child and also showed me that I knew absolutely nothing about this condition. If the lady had been able to get me the pictures in time for the current issue of A Distinctive Style the article would have been in it but will now be in the next issue. Amazing where stories come from. I believe that the general public need to understand these types of conditions and in doing so would not be so eager to criticise others.
The new issue is out and there are a couple of my `bits` in there I hope you enjoy them. If you do go and look be sure to watch the video in the Derek Paravicini article...amazing.
I am heading for Coffs Harbour on 16th. April and will try to settle down after ten years of travelling and `hangin out.`
Received a phone call from a total stranger today Tuesday 5 April, she had found my profile on the BCC site. She has a proposition to put to me and we are about to catch up to discuss it. Just goes to show that BCC is a very worthwhile organisation to be involved with. This caller is from Melbourne and she sourced me. Thanks BCC.

Pleased to say our area is greening again -- May 5th Licuala Writers launch their first book - I am one of the editors.
I just had an interview with ABC and it will feature in some documentary i think through the open project online, will send info when I have it. Got to read a poem composed on cyclone yasi and sing a song - 20 min interview - my photos will also be featured.
Two of my haiku made it into Haiku4Japan of Om Times facebook and twitter feed and some work accepted for Ilura Press, Etching - The Feminine issue...
Met Graham Conners songwriter at yasi bounce back, and Jeff McMullen, able to give both of them the anthology. We also gave a copy to Prince William via ceo /mayor council - what a surreal but awesome time. Dr June Perkins |

I made some electronic enquiries to some publishers and got a very positive response from Xlibris, who have a package to set up my book, print and distribute it too. The price seems very reasonable and I`m wondering if anyone else has had any experience, good or bad, of this company? Please get back to me with any feed-back, I would be grateful. If not then I will go in and I`ll be able to tell you about my experience with them. That`s one of the functions of this great little organisation. Stephen, I would be happy to add a small review. To Gisela`
I don`t know how I'd go with the book expos, but it seems Strategic are doing well. To have your book at any of their book shows it will cost you $199 US per book. If you buy three shows you get a fourth free. The London expo is on 11-13 April and the New York on 22-24 May. If you want to do the Frakfurt show it`s on 12-16 of October. If interested email Vickie@strategicBookMarketing.com
I`m hoping my book will sell, but if not I won`t try them again.
I`m thinking of getting my own website to advertise my books. There`s also Red Hen somewhere in Qld, they sell your books for you, I might give them a go. Has any of you had any dealings with them and how did you go? Many regards to everybody and keep writing.Alida. |

Reading for doctorate. Free writing when possible. Mainly keeping a reflexive journal of my experiences and journey.
Need new contributors for BCC and to see this concept grow. If anyone can help by putting the word out there, it would be greatly appreciated.
Immensely happy to see contributors interacting with one another and seeking professional advice from other contributors who have the knowledge and experience. Our professional literary community is growing and engaging well. My vision is to see Book Creators thrive!
Happy writing to you all for another month and happy promoting. Don`t forget - if you don`t believe in your work why should anyone else? If you don`t work hard at your writing and value it, then why should anyone else? And if you don`t know how to sell your work then why should anyone want to buy it?
Let`s support each other through this moment of literary uncertainty in the book world and let`s approach everything we do as an awesome adventure about to unfold before each of us and let nothing stop us from professionally going forward. LDR |

"All art is unceasing practice", Blake. This inspires me as it resonates that writers, like artists, must grow and never stop learning. My mother at 86 has begun writing. I give her a topic and she writes away. It is helping stimulate her mind and revealling an inner wealth I never knew was there. This is what I had hoped for when I wrote "Conversations with My Mother" but instead when I wrote that book in her honour, I had to rely on my own inner values.
I am still waiting patiently for a reply about the doctorate proposal and whether it has been accepted. In the meantime, I read for hours and formulate plans for the thesis, which I know will be totally different in 3 or 6 or 10 years time when I finish. It is the journey that counts and the great people we meet along the way who inspire our creativity and support our growth as people and above all as writers.
I have just sent an email to a writer I admire greatly and who I met in NYC - Shaun Tan, inviting him to be an Ambassador for BCC. I took a step out there this morning and it was only an email.
Now to the reality of reading for research. Looking forward to hearing from the Tuesday Writers` Forum. Happy writing and reading.....LDR |

Like to share this with you. I have had a wonderful feedback from a younger person. She enjoyed reading the book and was very impressed by the letters. She remarked about them `I could not imagine any man now writing such loving letters to his sweetheart`
So anyone who hasn`t read my book, read and enjoy it.
Of course, those letters helped me to make up my mind to come to Australia to meet the letter writer.

Hi everybody. Another one of my books is on the market, "Flight into Death", a thriller, published by Bookpal. I have decided to try them instead of publishers in the US such as Xlibris and others. The price of shipping the books is too high. I`ll keep you ingformed how I go with them.
To Gisela I had deals with Andrew Pavel with my book "The Story of Prisoner Number 329", which is set in Germany and the Netherlands and I thought the Frankfurt Bookfair would be ideal. They take your money and that`s the last thing you hear about them. I now have my book "Guilty Until Proven Innocent" on the London and New York Bookfair with the Strategic Bookpublishing group. You have to keep trying. My book "The Dutch Migrant" is selling well, but I have to advertise to get sales.
Don`t give up Gisela, and I wish you and everyone all the best. Keep writing! Alida van den Bos |

Greetings at month end and some month it was. I sent a report on YASI, with appropriate photos, to UK. I`ve just about finished the final editing of my two books. One was criticised for being cross-genre in the same way that Gone with the Wind was cross genre with war and romance! Times change though. Rebecca is thinking of replacing our library of fiction books and is seriously thinking of buying an i-pad, courtesy of Mr. Apple. Her reasons are that e-books take up less space and do not deteriorate, you buy them for much less than bookshop retail price, and they are yours forever. On i-pad you can choose from the Sony `Kobe` collection, the Amazon `Kindle` collection and the Borders `Nook` collection, thereby getting round the arrogant, imperialistic tendency for multi-nationals to split the world up in to regions for the purposes of marketing their products. Take the DVD regional restrictions! I rest my case. So the i-pad will allow you to access all these and do SO MUCH MORE that it seems a shame not to take advantage of one. Note: there`s a new version due out on March 21st so don`t rush out a buy a current version. The new one has a camera, too, we think. However, it doesn`t make the tea and toast for you in the morning - yet! Happy writing. |

Use this means of communication to share your successes or literary news. February has been a month to reflect on International PEN and the role of writers. I visited Sydney for the PEN AGM and was delighted to meet Michael Fraser and see Bonny Cassidy again. I was impressed to see PEN`s legal support and working with the legal department at UTS. Interesting how the links are formed that support writers and how vital we all are in the scheme of things.
I believe our role as writers is a vital one, that we should never lose sight of the great privilege it is to be one in that special cohort and how important it is to maintain a strong, professional stance. |

Like to wish everyone at BCC a productive and happy 2011. Enjoy the journey of your writing and of your life - there is inspiration and stories everywhere. Keep your dream alive by always believing in yourself. Also thanks to Letizia for your tireless work re BCC, and your belief in everybody`s talent. My goal for 2011 is to continue to enjoy writing, networking and blogging. It is through sharing ideas and information that we can assist each other in achieving our dreams. And it is always lovely meeting new writers, poets and artists and people passionate about books and the power of words.
Happy New Year everyone.

Hi all, wishing you a happy New Year and may we sell lots of books. For self publishers I thlought you might like to know that Eloquent Books, an imprint of Strategic Books Group, is opening a branch in Australia in June 2011. This saves you a lot of money in shipping and they pay 50 royalties. They do a terrific job as they did with my latest book Guilty Until Proven Innocent. Good Luck everyone. Alida |

How about US author Phillip Roth`s auto - three quarters of a page for one sentence! Amazing, revealing, unconventional, brilliant writing. Met,heard & bought David Suziki`s latest book when he spoke at Bangalow. Also attended Mark Coker`s talk on the future of digital publishing at Byron Bay Writers Centre. He founded www.smashwords.com, where my book is for sale.(+ at A&R, Amazon etc) I recon S/W is a better deal than Lulu!
Have now sorted the plot, beginning & ending of my new venture,in 2011,of writing a crime/thriller/adventure novel.
Now, well done Letizia & I wish all of us what we most desire & more, that is legal, in 2011. Cheers, Phil at www.phillatz.com. |

END OF MONTH BLOGROLL
Proud to have met Suzuki, bought his books and received an email from him. Fancy taking the time to reply! If only all writers and all people in business realised the worth in human warmth and above all, relationship building and genuine connectedness. Writers must remember it is not only about writing but about being out there and getting profile through our networks and the people we meet each day, regardless of whether we`ll meet them again. Each person counts. Suzuki counts even more for me now. |

Well the end of the year - a time for assessing the achievements. Next weekend we`ve got a book launch for a local history, about the Kane family who owned and farmed the whole district. I worked on the first edit for the original draft way back last January, and am so pleased for the author that it`s got to publication. I`ll be celebrating with her! Pip Sheehan Lowther |

Thanks for sharing your successes this month and for giving us invaluable information. The beauty about BCC is that people like to work on the collective energy and keeping it simple!
Writers should be writers and readers, writing as a discipline, reading widely and learning how to better our craft. The rest is about being informed about the industry and working together. |

Hello to everyone, my novel is finally finished,(My Chocolate Soldier), about 95,000 words, and each comma checked - some editing, thanks to Gloria. I have been lent a book called `A Decent Proposal` written by a couple of Lady writers, which gives the outline of how to approach publishers to get the greatest chance of success. When all my home renovations are finished I will come to grips with the lessons in there, and maybe have a chat to some of you about their methodology. Keep scribbling and talking among yourselves! 45,000 words written, 85,000 to go for my latest book that is due for submission in January. Losing hair I can`t afford to lose! Also, have written a story about survival against the odds in the November edition of the Reader`s Digest. I recently had another story, about the joy of owning dogs, translated into German! I hope everyone is well. |

It seems that I left the area a little too early as the success of the Expo is still ringing around the traps. Congratulations to all involved and particularly to Letizia who is a tireless worker for us all.
I have been pushing the magazine over the past few years to show some Australian content and the last three issues have had an article or two. I have concentrated on Indigenous people and it has now become an essential part of the magazine. The current issue shows a story about Eva Wanganeen an artist from North Queensland and her amazing silk art works. Please go take a look
www.adistinctivestyle.com page 92-93 the rest of the mag is pretty cool too. |

Dear BCC members,
I just wanted to say thank you for the many nice comments about my efforts at the Book Expo as the MC. You are very kind.
Was that a good expo, or what? Heaps of books sold (our priority) and some people speaking some nice things to us.
Many congratulations to Councillor Val Schier, Helen and Star, who stepped in at the 11th hour, and to Hank and Hazel, the Friths-Clifford and Dawn, and the lovely Gisela, who seemed surprised at getting emotional when talking of her husband! Bless you. A great event and thanks also to all the helpers who did such a great job in supporting the event.
Well done Letizia! |

Something for our South Australian Writers from a journo call out at SourceBottle:
Experienced SA based writers wanted for new magazine. Being a parent is one of the world’s most rewarding and challenging jobs. It is full of ups and downs, times of utter joy and exhilaration, and times of despair and complete unknowing.
Parenting styles may be different but all parents aspire to a common goal. To raise their children to be happy, healthy well adjusted and to achieve more than they have as parents.
We're putting together a new high end-gloss magazine focusing on South Australian families.
Published seasonally, Moppet Magazine is all about families, the lifestyle, characters, events, and all the special little people in our lives!
If you're a South Australian freelance writer and are interested in writing for Moppet Magazine, we want to know about you. Send through some examples of your work, your rates, resume, and of course contact details to sales@sainformer.com. Deadline: 27 August 2010 @ 5pm Eastern Daylight Saving Time (Successful sources will not be paid.) |

A make-your-own-book lunchtime project at the school where I'm librarian has been extremely rewarding. This time of the year is always busy and the next issue is out on the 1st July so all the fine tuning is being done at the moment. I did the Olivia Newton-John interview but due to the time we are now running it in the next issue. I have a number of items in this new one and they include Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu the blind indigenous singer/guitarist who has the most amazing voice. He is to be featured in the magazine in interview form as well as on video. That voice will haunt the US readers who, as usual, have never heard of him. Can't complain though they have two features of folks I've never heard of so, I guess we're all square. I have just spoken to Eva Wanganeen the indigenous silk artist from Cow Bay and it was a lot of fun. Eva and her husband Colin are meeting with me at my 'office' the outside restaurant area at Angsana tomorrow to finalise the story. She is a delight to talk to and so enthusiastic. Bye for now...err almost forgot there may be a little something about a Letizia De Rosa in the new issue. Never heard of her? You will. Greetings folks, Rebecca and I have just returned from a 10,000km drive to Adelaide and back over six weeks -the mission statement of which was 'To visit friends and vineyards!' A noble cause, I think!
At the beginning of April I started on a novel, my first, and the words came thick and fast. I have said that when I send a postcard I make the address very large so I don't have to write too many words in the message. So to be able to write 10,000 words per long weekend, twice, is a totally new experience for me! There is a degree of wonder, excitement and exultation in this experience and it may be addictive, If so, I welcome it.
A day behind the scenes in Canberra Zoo hand-feeding lions, tigers, giraffes, otters, sharks, bears, monkeys and dingos were each very real, once in a lifetime memory prints.
However, I am speaking at the July meeting and have to prepare for that, and may play a role in September at our expo. I look forward to meeting up with you once more. Cheers, Chris |

Hi all. The manual for children's counsellors "Using Stories" has sold out its first modest run for the professional arena, and the author Liz Maluschnig and I are re-editing it into a book for parents, caregivers, teachers and counsellors. Working at the business end of the book publishing process, the re-working/step-by-step/comma-by-colon fastidiousness required, reminds me of the respect every book deserves. One clear emphasis has emerged for me from this project: it's really important to know your target audience. Pip |

A lot is happening in my world at the moment and it's busy, busy , busy. A number of interviews last month but the most interesting one was with Stephen Wiltshire the English born (of West Indian parents)autistic artist. He produces the most incredible artworks from memory after viewing the subject ie Hong Kong Harbour for an hour or so. On the 11th. June I have an interview with Olivia Newton-John. Just a thought for you all...do you realise just what BCC and Letizia's work is doing for your business? I typed in my name in Google recently and came up 3rd. on page 1 on the global results. This was ranked so high because I am a member of BCC. Try popping your name in there and see what happens. |

I've started a blog especially for the discipline of daily practice writing: www.imaginifbusiness.blogspot.com. A new writer's prompt is published daily and writers from all over write to the prompt. They publish their practice writing (any genre) to their own blog and we all comment on each others. It's fun and helps to further hone the critical friend skill that writers all value so highly. If you want to join in but haven't yet got a blog, talk to me, I can help you set up a free blog or a self hosted one if you prefer.
I'm guest speaker at Australia's Biggest Morning Tea at Paradise Palms on June 1st. I'm talking about symbolism - see some of you there. |

Hello, all. I've been having a rest from everything literary, I think, trying to get our place on the market. However, I want to share with you a delightful book I've just finished and am about to pick up again and re-read. 'the school of essential ingredients: a novel' by Erica Bauermeister, published last year by HarperCollins Publishers. The writing is food for the soul - lyrical, metaphorical and a wonderful conglomerate of characters. I grudged putting it down to get on with 'stuff'. Jean |

Brilliant concept for children and aspiring children's writers at smories.com. Writer sends in a children's story (up to 750 words) to a competition at Smories. If shortlisted, your story is read by a child and a video of the reading placed on the website. What an excellent way to road test children's stories and to keep children focused on reading. Author retains all rights bar the right of the video. I'm going to send a short story in, anyone else want to try? smories.com. |

...and then there's Chris - there's always one late one. Sorry. I'm writing a novel about WW1 with a love interest, some violence and some loving. I still don't know where it is coming from. Please understand that I write the address on postcards in big writing so I don't have much space to fill in to the receiver, so can someone enlighten me as to how/why I am able to throw down some 25,000 words in basically two long weekends. I have had no plot, no timelines and no ending, but away we go on this joyous ride to? wherever it ends. Wish me luck, this is exhilarating! Cheers, Chris Shaw |

Hi all,
Living in a hassle-free Paradise on an island with snow white beaches and 25 cent beers... really. Begun writing again after l-o-o-o-o-n-g hiatus, starting with simple how-to book as a warm up to the real thing - the screenplay. If there is a heaven on earth, I've at least found the waiting room.

Taking photographs for an article on the Indigenous art of Australia. Plenty of co-operation from the locals not much from the Government bodies responsible for promotion thereof. Also finalising an article on none other than Letizia De Rosa for the magazine and it will feature in the next issue. Major story breaking in the USA that we are hoping to cover. If it comes to fruition I'll update as soon as possible. PETER MACK |

It was great to meet Letzia recently and also to meet Dave in person at the Tropical writers meeting earlier in the year. I'm in a lot of on line groups so it's wonderful to actually meet people beyond cyberspace.
I have had some fantastic news, our local writers group have received a RADF grant to do an anthology.I am working on some photography /poetry books especially, which I am planning to self publish, so any hints and tips appreciated.
Also working on the multimedia workshop with a team of others for the upcoming Tropical Writers festival, and its been awesome to network with some new writers - I hope to meet more of you soon and make it to a Cairns' BCC network meeting. I'm in Feluga (:
I like to write everyday- and blog- my blog links are on my page here if any of you want to visit and see what kind of stuff I do. http://pearlz.wordpress.com and http://worldcitizendreaming.wordpress.com I always appreciate some feedback and will be selling my work from my blog in books in the not too distant future. |

The 'Earth Dreams Magic' book launch (ref blog 28 March) was highly successful with about 200 people in attendance. I also created a performance piece for the evening which got a great response from the audience plus the editor singled me out with thanks for my contribution to the book. Yes, I was on a high! Chris your encouraging comments were very much appreciated. I passed them on to my editor. |

Being now a "Book Creator" (don't you love the resonance of words?), the revival of my small press business PeakPress which has been dormant for several years while I was in Oz has been especially satisfying. PeakPress offers editing, graphic design and pre-press services, mainly small projects like poetry, manuals, family histories, etc. A manual for counselling children using stories is my latest: a fresh approach to some fairly deep water. |

Go to to find the Felixstowe Scribblers website, (East Coast of UK) with a report that Hazel has bought one of their 'Anthologies' with the constructive comments she made about it, and that they should check her out on the BCC website. If BCC members had a look at the FS website above, we will have an even closer link. They also have free shop-fronts for books! Who knows? See you soon, Chris Shaw |

Hi all B.C.C. folk...Must admit this is my first time on theis blog and I have really enjoyed reading way way back on all the content. I wanted to thank Letizia for arranging the Sat. talk/workshop with Dr. David Reiter at short notice. David of InteractivePublications Brisbane published my Vocal Enrichment Book and I found him a genuine person who shares his knowledge and info in a balanced and sincere manner.Saturday's Digital info was eye-opening in many respects.most stimulating and clearly laying out options for writers in the flux of today's technology.
Meantime I am now working on a commissioned park history 'faction'book for N.Z. organisations and acomplementing interactive children's poetry book which provides the creative imaginative contrast I need in my
writing days. Blessings to you all Hazel. |

Poet and writer Gay Liddington has made a truly great contribution with her expressive pieces and poetry". Check it out on www.earthdreamsmagic.com |

Great meeting 20/02, as usual. I have received continuous e-mails from two outfits, Andrew Parvel and Kim Hornyak. They say that they can expose (my) book to a very large number of Librarians, teachers, booksellers and more, for a price (of course). Has anyone out there had any experience of these people, or can validate an increse in sales because of their use? I would be interested to hear, if so. Personally, I'm a bit wary, and see them as modern-day carpet-baggers. Thanks Letizia, Brenda, Jacque and Amanda. |

Jason,
thanks for the comment about the illusion of control. It asked the question of me as to why I was doing what I do, id est, write and enjoy writing short stories. The answer that I came up with is that I enjoy sharing a story or moving picture with others. There is, I suppose, control to the extent that I can hope to influence mood, tears, joy, laughter but maybe that too is an illusion. 'Smoke and mirrors' as the man said. |
|
Chris 25 Jan 2010 at 10:08 AM |

Dear Gisela,
I know it is a never-ending job. Proof reading is important and there are many proof readers on the Gold Coast. But none I have worked with. Check the yellow pages or google. I reckon they all have lots of work.
Does the proof reader have to be on location as the writer? Can it be sent on disc or electronically?
What do other writers doe for a proof reader?

I am working with another writer today to focus on our goals for the year. One of the cool thing for writers to do is to work together and get smart about it. Whether it is writing or promoting or selling books, if we work together it is all the more fun! What do you do to work with other writers? |
|
Jean 01 Jan 2010 at 03:08 AM |
Wow, Alida! You are an inspiration! And here I've just hit the pension and (on my mother's family standards) have another 30 good years ahead of me ... I'm working on short stories at the moment, but the word 'book' keeps intruding.
Letizia, I can imagine no greater gift than yours of poetry for a friend. |
|
Alida 01 Jan 2010 at 02:28 AM |
To Anna.
Twelve years to write a manuscript is nothing. It took me at least 70 years to graduate from short stories to novels. Now I can't stop. You have to sit down and write whatever comes into your head. Once you have a start it's easy. I have written nine novels so far and am working on my tenth. 7 published.
Best of luck and Happy New Year to all. Alida. |
|
Letizia 01 Jan 2010 at 11:07 AM |
PP,I've just finished writing a poem to a writer friend of mine who turns 50 today. Such a simple gift but the most beautiful I can think of - for a writer to dedicate a written piece to another writer. I am also trying to get a collection of poems finished for 2010. Success is in the wind. |
|
Jean 01 Jan 2010 at 10:46 AM |
Happy New Year, everyone on BCC. May all your blogs turn to writing and your writing to success and satisfaction.
With reference to the recent posts, both readers and writers come with their own backgrounds, personalities and viewpoints, so that, however good or average or indifferent the writing, the reader takes it on with his/her own standards and expectations. Writing that hits with a zing and stays forever in my mind and my heart is the writing I search for.
May we all find it or write it in 2010. |
|
PP 01 Jan 2010 at 09:46 AM |
I read the same reason I write. Because I love it. Thanks to BCC for helping me focus on my writing and getting my butt into gear and to remember to write every day. So easy on your own to lose the plot. I needed this group ... What are the rest of you writing about? |

To communicate one's thoughts that are worthy to be communicated :to stimulate thinking in one's readers and to hear why others agree with you or why they don't:to stimulate one's own thoughts by considering one's reader's reactions. |

Chris 29 Dec 2009 at 04:03 AM |
This writer tends to take a particular situation, which he finds funny/sad or out of the ordinary, and convey that to others. It's a bit like telling stories around a table, getting a laugh, teaching and stretching horizons in others, in life experiences. I appear, at present, not to be sufficiently patient or deep to think in terms of writing a novel. It may be that my short stories are a prelude to finding some topic that I can get my teeth in to over 50-100,000 words. My right brain has a lot of growth to go through since I have used my left brain science logic for most of my life. The fun will be in the doing it-like smelling the roses. |

I agree with you Chris. Letizia has done an exceptional job at creating this literary circle. This concept has helped me focus in my writing and I am also reading more too. Great to have a group that is living, growing and pulsating that inspires and encourages you. I'm wrapped to belong to this unique concept. |

What really lucky people we are!
a/ we have the ability to express ourselves in a medium where there are no walls of constriction
b/ we have a ready-made organisation so that we can pool information on writing/editing/publishing
c/ we are no longer working in isolation (unless we want to) but have a circle of support to provide stimulus and stability.
May the circle increase in diameter, go global and set a benchmark for intergrity and community. Thank you Letizia, for all your efforts on our behalf. |

Eve 29 Nov 2009 at 02:44 AM |
HI Anna,
I have been writing for years and the most difficult part of the book is the beginning and the end. Most writers find this to be true. I think writers write because they enjoy it. So if you still enjoy it after 12 years then keep writing. The motivation usually comes in the reason you write. Why do you write? |
|
Helen 29 Nov 2009 at 12:32 PM |
Hi everyone,I started writing about 28 years ago because I had to write something for a drama class; have been writing ever since. But it has only been since 2005 that I have knuckled down to really polish my work. I find writing enjoyable yet exasperating at times as I try to find the right words to paint the pictures that are in my head. |
|
Anna 28 Nov 2009 at 09:29 AM |
I am a writer and have been working on a manuscript for about 12 years. Can't seem to get the motivation to finish. Anyone got any tips? Anna |

HI Lilla,
You are welcome. Glad you enjoy coming in and using the blog. Put down your successes during the day. I am sure there are others who feel the way you do. Some days I can get so emotionally charged that writing is my only outlet. I wish I could paint it would be a good outlet during writer\\\'s block. |
|
Lilla 21 Nov 2009 at 12:00 PM |
I write to stop keeping my emotions all bottled up....Some people express their feelings via painting, sculptering, singing, dancing....I am one of this people when I feel anger or sadness I write, keeps me into balance. Painting right now has been my outlet, but I would like to concentrate more on my writing:) Launch was fantastic and I am so happy I went:)...Great to hear the speakers:))...Well, have a wonderful weekend you all and thank you Letizia for this blog, now I can come in and say a hello:))) Lilla xoxox |
|
MM 20 Nov 2009 at 04:22 AM |
I agree with Simone that writing can be an outlet but I just enjoy doing it. I don't get much time to write but when I do it makes me feel great. Why do the rest of you write? |
|
Simone 19 Nov 2009 at 08:26 AM |
I think writers write because they need to express something about who they are. I write because I have a disability and writing is an outlet. |
|
