How blessed we are after watching devestated USA cleaning up...Queenslanders know that strife and trauma By contrast a glorious morning here and enjoying reading all the posts...everyone very busy!!!Massive Congrats to Letizia on her award from Sydney Pen...she dserves that recognition. I am still daily balancing the act of writing my memoir. It is certainly a different act to short stories or a novel where the characters lead their own lives and the story develops sometimes in amazing directions. The characterin this work is me and the plot is all there. It is the only genre I have not wrtten in before and it is a fascinating process continually asking...just who is this book for? how does this element serve the reader? Always a duty of care about what could, should and definitely won`t be revealed.
I have also been busy completing a collection of littlies poems, another of strange short stories for publication and organising two functions for Nov 15 Day of The Imprisoned Writer 11.30 Straits at Holloways and4.30p.m. at Bernies Music Cafe in city. You will get fliers this week. And just to fill a busy month had a 15th great grandson two nights ago. Eska almost 11 lb. Still only two great grandaughters out of 17. Love them all madly but So glad most are over the Tasman and it's just Hank and I here writing or that memoir will never get finished. He has just completed two futuristic novellas ready for ebook Amazon. blessings to all hzl/hank

Our thoughts & prayers go out to all our contacts in the path of Hurricane Sandy. May their lives be protected, and their families safe. And as Obama reminded the journalist who asked about the impact the hurricane will have on the election - focus on what`s important, and the election will look after itself.

Hi, thinking about what to write this week. Has the world turned, has the world changed since last Tuesday? In my little corner of the world not a great deal has happened, I plod along - goals in place working towards them even if life throws a curveball and I have to step back a bit. I had a delightful curveball arrive on Sunday - yes there is such a thing as a delightful curveball. A dear friend, whom I haven`t seen for 4 years, rang out of the blue and asked if she and her friend could drop in for a couple of days on their way further north. It was wonderful and a reminder of how much we should treasure those very real, deep and lasting friendships.
I`m still thinking about the empty chair and the pressure is on to complete the story. I`ll post it on 15th November but it will be a bit raw.
Now I pause to think about all of those people who at this very moment are riding out Hurricane Sandy. Sandy is big, sassy and turned up very late in the season meeting up with an arctic weather front - they haven`t named, but I think is a bloke called Huegeot; slightly french and his flirtations with Sandy will cause havoc. Okay I`ve finished my Tuesday ramble.

Congratulations on successful outcome on Inaugural International Conferencing.
Giving thought to what I might do for 15th November. It`s been a very long time since I have been in the right head space to produce a poem. So I will set myself the challange of writing a poem entitled 'Empty Chair'. I apologise in advance if it turns into a story.

This has been an exciting week just gone. We made the inaugural online communication on 21 October. Great moment in BCC history with people from the UK, New Zealand, Melbourne and different places in Australia all on at once. Great collegial energy.
This coming month will hold many creative moments for me as a writer. I am writing sonnets - a new found passion that is making my creative energy soar.
As a leader I am very excited about talking with our contributors today online about their contribution on the 15 November for the Day of the Imprisoned Writer known as Courage Day or PEN international day. The 15 November is the day that all creators and writers around the world acknowledge `Empty Chair`, the silenced writer, and freedom of expression.

Just a short note to let you all know my book & poetry is making great in-roads into India now...so far I`ve had 2 poems selected for a huge Indian anthology which, not only includes Indian poets but selected poets worldwide. I also had a pre-recorded radio interview on Sunday just gone, which will be broadcast the 25th October on SBS radio for the Indian program, this segment not only is broadcast in Oz but is transmitted throughout the major provinces of India.

Once again I forge into the perilous realms of publishing. I`ve just signed a contract for my latest book - "Letters Across Time" with O-Books (an imprint of John Hunt Publishing in the UK). Consequently I`m now on a production schedule ... if you are interested in doing a `galley review` of the book, please let me know asap.

Just a quick note to say I am about to head to a great, cheap resort in Fiji for a month to swim, sit & write my new crime/adventure/thriller novel. My memoir is still selling & I`m doing the novel as an intellectual exercise, I tell myself. Meanwhile I have been commisioned to write an article for two flying magazines with w/wide distribution, about helicopters operating now, in Fiji. This is especially interesting as I operated the first commercial heli ops in Fiji in 1970 & got the very out-of-date regs there changed for the better. Could have had my licence cancelled in the process but won out. It`s all in my book, I was there for Independance & saw Prince Charlie hand the country over & flew all the `heavies` (Sir Kanasese Mara etc) for the first election. Should be a good break, the resort is great as well, food teriffic - 3 meals, half bottle of OZ wine for AU$ 17 a day. Max 45 guests, 96 staff!

An inspiring time for all of us at the Tropical Writers Festival! A high point for me (apart from Roz Pappalardo`s song as theme for BCC, wow!), was a comedy workshop with Tim Ferguson. Not usually my thing, but the "cross-training" aspect really worked, and I`ve been thinking in one-liners.
Thanks to all BCC members who contributed, along with the mammoth effort put in by Tropical Writers - it all really was a team effort.

Hi everyone.
Well I`m not doing much in the writing area as I have sold my unit and will be moving to the Gold Coast at the beginning of November. A friend and I have written a children's play that we sent off to a production company this week. So fingers crossed. I would love to see it performed. Be well...

I was very impressed with Tropical Writers Festival and the energy that was created there. The panels were very informative and I have renewed energy to put into my own writing.
I was blessed to be able to take Matthew Reilly on a tour of the JCU Aquarium. He was very impressed with all the "alien-like" creatures that inhabit the aquarium, and indicated he would be incorporating some of them into future books. He also gave me a huge amount of support for my publishing journey.
Thanks to all who were involved in the organisation of this amazing event. Cairns has got some amazing talent, and I feel really supported being a part of the Book Creators Circle.

Well done all the folk who represented BCC and participated in T.W. festival and a special congratulations to Joyce on the launch of her new book. Hopefully there will be great spin off in the writing community to work harmoniously together at all levels in F.N.Q. Festivals are great for networking and social discourse, often encouraging and inspiring for new and aspiring writers.
I may now be old enough to be in a tall poppy syndrome because I stress if you really want to write WRITE regardless of all the rules and regimes and strategies and dogma that come your way. Use perceptive awareness to take on board that which works for you, because each person and writer is a unique being. We don`t all fit in the same mold so we have to take ownership of our own work and our individual place in the writing fraternity.
My current focus is adding to the 43000 words of my first memoir draft, writing a review of a brilliant contemporary non fiction book 'Participating Journalism' which focuses on the newspaper industry and (fewer)journalists coping with the democratisation of news gathering globally. My latest review now posted on Media Culture web page is Hidden Lessons in a Kabul Guesthouse which is a well crafted narrative account of a remarkable humanitarian.
Blessings to all BCC contributors and a hearty welcome to new ones.Hzl

Tropical Writers Festival was great fun. Thanks again to all the organisers, committee and helpers.
Big thank you to Collins Booksellers Smithfield for their tremendous support for our writers and having BCC books on sale. Your support of regional writers deserves to be commended in every way possible.
Wonderful to see so many BCC contributors at the festival like Bridey Walker, Dan Kelly at Boolarong Press, Julia Fulford Kirby, Ken Cotterill, Dr Torre, John Kemu, Darran Butler, Cheryll-Anne Boissevain, Robyn Moore, LicualaWINQ writers, Sylvia Pattison, Kay Bell from Melbourne, June Perkins, Dave Delaney, Collins Book sellers - Kerstin Brown, Joyce Berendes, Chris Shaw, Pip Sheehan Lowther from New Zealand and Leanne Peard. The list goes on ....
BCC had a segment lead by Jacque Duffy, Stephen Chong, and Roz Pappalardo. We had an exceptional time letting people know what we are all about.
The more I lead this group the more I realise what BCC offers and the greater my own appreciation of its potential. It is great to have a vision that unfolds and grows organically. Without you all this would not happen. Thanks for trusting me.
Thanks also to all our newcomers to face book and this link and hope to hear your news often on this forum. Please use this means of communication and to keep abreast with what our contributors are doing.

Hi Lynne here. Last month I entered my first short story competition with S.T.A.R.S. a Queensland based writers group. I went to their function on Satirday and found out I had come second. I was so thrilled as I have never been great at winning comos etc. The rest of the afternoon was spent going over ways of improving how we write and what catches a judges eye.
The more I time I spend with writers the more I am learning and growing as a writer. This is one of the main reasons I love being a member of BCC. Please join me in attending as many conferencing as you can and ventrilo when you have the opportunity. Thankyou to Letizia who is always encouraging and energetic in her passion for writers, publishers and like minded people in our field - hope you all have a great inspirational week. I have decided to put my women`s group course on the web as an online course, so I am writing that at the moment.

Hello all! Well, I`ve had a quieter time of late in terms of both writing and illustrating....seemed to need "time out". But i received something last week on email regarding the 3 top mistakes writers make. OK...here they are: 1. Marketing. 2. Marketing 3. Marketing. OK...so the message was there...so I put together a second youtube and posted it up a few days ago.I`m delighted with the responses I`ve been receiving from all over the globe in the past 48 hours...people are definitely noticing it, and even if it does not increase sales astronomically, people are watching it! My other youtube is also getting q nice little boost to watchers! Here is the link to my latest youtube if you`d like to view it! best wishes to all - you are my greatest inspiration! If by chance this link does not lead you to my youtube, check out Sotto Le Nostre Stelle (Under Our Stars) youtube and you will find it easily!

What is surprising to me is that after I finished by non-fiction book about my experiences that led to my non-profit organization and what has happened since, I find myself writing almost daily. I thought that my book, in the middle of the self-publishing process, with its definite purpose and proceeds going to my organization, was a one-time effort. But now I am well into a novel (a thinly-veiled memoir) and find I look forward to my writing time. Who knew?

Tuesday Writers` Forum Day - gentle reminder to all writers that the importance of the craft is the 'doing and developing'. It is essential that we all engage actively in writing and promoting ourselves.
Achieving in the book industry is like any other dream or goal. It is about keeping focussed.

Writing, writng, writing...that is what is happening for Hank and I. 35000words into memoir, 30 short stories andpoems for me and a novell aand work on Scorza novel sequel for Hank.
I am convinced that the only way to advance artisttry and technique of one's writing is to write and read work aloud frequently. That`s what we do. Apart from encouraging other writers,we keep a low social profile. But oh boy do we enjoy our reading and breaks with taped DVD`s docos and movies whether they are historical sagas, futuristic space, or some of the current wonderful SBS overseas contemporary classics. We keep life as simple as possible.
My latest book reviews Small Indiscretions in Asia and Waiting for a Wide Horse Sky on Media/Culture word reviews. Now it`s 1p.m. time for abreak and an Indian TV drama with it.
ENJOY writing, if you don`t enjoy it get a paid job.!!
